WinXP will not boot on K8N Neo2 Platinum w/ 3500 90nm

I just set up my new system, which is a MSI NEO2 Platinum with an AMD athlon 64 3500+ 90nm CPU. I have 512 megs of Crucial Ballistix DDR3200 ram. The hard drive is a seagate barracuda 80 gig ide drive. I boot from my winXP cd and format the disk, and install windows just fine. But, when it reboots to start the installation's second stage, I get this message:


VERIFYING DMPI POOL DATA ........
Error loading operating system.

What gives? Just to check hardware out, I put in my Fedora Core 2 linux CD and installed it. After reboot, it loaded linux up like a champ. But, I didn't buy this setup to look at linux all day. The bios on the board is the latest one available at MSI's website, W7025NMS v1.3 092204 15:57:09. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes with a DFI , AMD 64 3200 , tried 3 different HD all with same problem.Ordered a new HD SATA 120GB installed and it worked

PS: this was after using fdisk and format. I tried everything that I could think of.

Unfortunately I'm having similar problems.
Initally had a K8N Neo Platinum (not 2) with a Athlon 3200 and 1g crucial RAM and a 120gig Maxtor
No problem with the install.
Now I got a Seagate 200g SATA drive and I'm having the exact same problem.
The disk formats and intallation begins. THen the computer restarts and I get the "error loading operating system" error. My initial install was XP pro, this time it was home. (bothe sp1) I'm not sure if that is the trouble..
I'll let you know how this progresses.

Check your boot-device priorities guys. Sounds like what's happening is that on that second boot attempt, the mobo goes "oh good, there's a hard drive with an active partition this time," so the mobo no longer tries to boot from CD. But the mobo is not set to look to the hard drive as its next alternative, and so you don't get that second stage of setup.

So in Advanced BIOS Features as depicted on page 3-8 of your manual, they've got 1st/2nd/3rd boot device and right above those, there's Hard Disk Boot Priority. Jump in there and check over those settings. Also, if you have any storage drives, I'd unplug them during Windows Setup, especially for SATA users where the PATA drive will probably hijack drive letter C: from the SATA drive.

I seem to recall a thread where I got some more info, gonna go search for that...

I was fooling around with boot priority before, with no luck, but I'll give it another shot.
And all other drives are unplugged.
If you could find that other threat I'd be grateful.

I also had a problem with the Neo2 and leaving a disk in the DVD Drive. This only occured using a Pioneer 120s Dvdrom. If I left the disk in the drive, windows would BOSD and reboot when it tried to load. Also when putting a disk into the drive in windows it would sometimes BOSD.
