Wired and wireless connection question

To clarify the question - I have a Dell laptop with a built-in wireless Intel Pro wireless LAN 2100 3A adapter and an on-board Broadcom 570x Gigabit ethernet adapter. If I have both a wireless connection and a hardwire connection through the ethernet adapter, which does it default to use? Does it automatically pick the faster of the two connections or is it just random?

You shouldn't have both NICS enabled concurrently unless each adapter is connected to a different subnet (or unless you're setting up bridging/ICS). Disable one or the other if both are connecting to the same network or you will have problems.

It's mainly random. Actually it's probably whichever one it sees the connection from first. We have the same thing at work (Dells with built in wireless but mainly cable connections). We always have to Fn+F2 and disable the wireless to force it to use the cable connection because it's much faster.
