Wired connection stopped working but wireless connec still works, help

So I was transferring some files from my laptop to my pc with gotomypc, and all of a sudden I lose my connection. Fair enough, I'd been up/downloading all day and figured Cablevision gave me the boot. So I unplug/reconnect my modem and router and BAM...PC can't connect. My laptop and other PC, which both use wireless connections, still can though oddly enough.

When I go into "network connections" in control panel all I see is "1394 Connection", and it's satus is "connected and firewalled". I don't see any icon for an LAN Connection though.

Could this be a motherboard driver/BIOS issue? That's what the cablevision guy says but ummm, it was working fine up until last night. Help.

XP? Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. Reinstall netcard drivers. It would seem they became corrupted.

check the NIC in BIOS, if it does not show up there, then the motherboards dying and needs to be replaced.

I just bought the motherboard brand new 2 weeks ago. Its an evga 780i. I'll try to reinstall the nvidia drivers from the installation cd and see what happens and report back. Thanks.

Update: uninstalled nvidia network drivers, popped in cd that came with motherboard, problem solved. Thanks.

I've had this happen to me before.

How do networking drivers become corrupted?

Since when does a dead nic on a mb mean that you need to replace the mb?

Have easily replaced a dozen in the past with PCI cards. I know for a fact that at least some are still running, one for about 3 years.
