I have two network cards, a wired and wireless.

If I'm in range of a WAP and I'm also connected via rj45 which connection will the computer use, wired or wireless?

Im not sure of which is the default but you check by doing this:

Right click My network places > Properties > Advanced > Advanced Settings

There is a list there of your connections, the highest is the default(most priority) and you can change the order.

From my experience, it will tend to use the wireless.

I have also found that you can go to the Advanced TCP/IP properties, and manually set Gateway Metrics for each connection, so it will use the one you specify. I can't remember whether it is a higher or lower number it will use first Best way is to change the values of both, and try transferring a file, and see which connection it is using (open up Task Manager and go to the Networking tab)

It's lower metric first.

It's lower metric first.

Cheers, I thought it was that, but wasn't going to commit myself to one way or the other as I was unsure
