Currently, im using a WNDR3700 flashed with DD-WRT.

I feel like this router has always given me trouble, and now its worse than ever.

-I have had to power cycle it almost twice a week to straighten out wireless issues. (speed so slow unusable, etc)
-When i turn my computer on - it takes a long time to connect to the internet - usually steam and other programs give me errors because they cant connect to the internet. It just takes so long to connect.
-Most recently - my WIRED connection to my main computer just keeps dropping, and i get the yellow exclamation point on the network symbol. Literally every 5 minutes itll drop and come back.

I called comcast to see if they were the problem, they said the connection hasnt dropped on their end - so the problem is the router.

I reset everything on the router to factory default (DDWRT not stock) and just set up basic wireless with WPA2 AES. Disabled my 5ghz band.

Still giving me trouble. I dont know what to do from here. The router is less than a year old. I still have to box so if i have to flash back and bring it back to best buy to exchange for a different one, if its still possible to do.

EDIT: Also, is there anywhere in DDWRT's history or log that will tel me what keeps happening?

Can you check to see what chanel you are on?
Try changing the chanel to a less crowded one.

Try using the stock firmware before you assume that it's a hardware issue. It may very well be a hardware problem, but I have about a dozen of these routers running in small business offices and none of them ever need to be rebooted unless a settings change requires it.

Quote:"my WIRED connection to my main computer just keeps dropping".

Concentrate first on this before you play around with the Wireless.

Start first with one wired computer working for a while by itself with No "creative" use of the Internet.

The fact that Comcast claim that it is Not the connection might, or might Not be so.

ISPs pretend that through their central computers they know what the condition of the whole connetion is. It in big parts Not true. It is a cost effective control measure (to say that every thing is OK) and has nothing to do with the technological reality. The only way to really know is to plug a special device (not your computer) at the Modem's output. ISPs will lose a fortune if at every complain they will dispatch a technician to the user home so they play the every thing is OK on our side game.

From the user's side. Wireless Router are so inexpensive these day that giving our dependency on the Internet it is a good idea to keep a spare $30 Router (just like we keep other tools) for the purpose of ruling out issues like in this case.

The head end on comcast has software to monitor each user in the neighborhood, they just can't afford to rewire everyone. same with u-verse.

They know its jacked up, same way they count your beans (gb's) ..

Why i ditched comcrap - i'll take slower 1 packet a day loss versus 10 packets every 20 minutes (Retrains) all day long when tele-working.

Cheap routers have low ram, this plus torrenting = crash.

Why many people reboot their dd-wrt routers daily.

Torrents kill (cheap) routers.

Are you using an Atheros Gigabyte LAN? If so that probably explains your wired connection dropping.

Open a couple of DOS windows (cmd command) if your running Windows. Run a continuous ping on the router itself (ex., ping -t 192.168.1.1) in one window, and a continuous ping on yahoo.com or google.com (ex., ping -t www.yahoo.com). Cable TV ISP's like Comcast and Time-Warner often suffer lags at peak times such as 4 pm to 8 pm weekdays, so run your pings then if you can. Let the pings run for a few hours minimum then hit the Ctrl-C key combo to stop. It will list what percentage of your pings are dropping, and where they're dropping; at your router or at Comcast. This is the same technique the field techs often use to isolate and identify such bottlenecks.

got the same router. OP, is yours V2? I've updated to the latest netgear firmware and I can't remember the last time I had to reboot the router. I did have to do it a few times I first got it. For the past year or so, it's been solid.
