You shouldn't have a problem. The normal problem with that is that you usualy then disqualify yourself for any rebates invovled...but since there are none....

If you already have t-mobile but happen to be out of contract will it allow you to sign up a new one?

No, or you'll have to sign a new contract.
I'm not too sure if they'll allow you to sign up.
FRom what the told me they keep you in the system for 90 days.

Just have someone you know signup for it, and do a transfer of responisbility at the t-mobile store.

Best thing is to ask somebody who has the service, but buying through an authorized agent like Wirefly gives you the same guarantees as buying directly from Nextel. i.e., you have something like 30 days to return the phone and cancel your service for full refund. This is a cellular industry mandate because of the exact issue you describe (it's impossible to know if coverage is going to be good at your location). I have ordered from Wirefly twice before and the box comes with a prepaid return label in it.

Yeah, Nextel is a big gotta ask people thing. For example, I live in South Philadelphia and have literally no problems with signal. If I go to North Philly (where I work), signal is really wonky in our warehouse but my co-worker's Cingular works just fine. Step outside of North Philly further into the suburbs and it gets into a really bad no signal area, but go a little further out and it is fine..

Hopefully though the merger of Nextel and Sprint means bigger and better service. Also the FCC is taking away Nextel's 800mhz frequency and giving then something in the 1.9ghz range for their walkie-talkie service.

Can I buy a phone really chep here, don't use the rebates. Them turn around and change the new plan into a family plan?
I don't understand. Just order a family plan from the start. There's a link for family plans. Just click More Plans.

I think they'll call you the following business day to confirm that the order was made.

Do you mean if I am a month-to-month T-Mobile customer (I am past my 1-year contract), I cannot get a brand new phone with a brand new contract? That does not make sense. What if I have a need for an additional line?

A more interesting question is whether I'll be able to transfer my current T-Mobile number to the new plan. I know you can keep your number if you go to a different carrier, but what if you stay with the same one?

I just signed up through Amazon. Once I get the new phone and activate it (with whatever number it'll come with), I'll call T-Mobile and ask for the number transfer. This should automatically close my existing account. Again, as long as they allow same carrier transfers.

They WILL NOT allow you to keep your number and get new plan. I just went through this - been with TMobile for 4 years and wanted to upgrade my phone through Amazon as well. I onlyhave a $30 a month plan so I am nothign in their eyes. They would only make a deal on getting me a replacement phone if I were on a higher plan.

I asked about gettingnew plan and saving my number and they said absolutely no way. Those incentives are only to get new folks in. I complained all the way up to supervisor and no dice. Your only shot is to switch plans if you hope to get a deal.

The fine print in the rebate on the Amazon site specifically says you cannot use this for existing accounts and numbers - you have to lose that number. If that isnt a big deal maybe you can get away with it - but they're in business tomake money, not give away free phones.

Good luck!

Awesome, I just ordered a Samsung A670 for free! Thanks OP.

Hopefully they don't stop the promotion before verizon accepts my credit application...

It is 12 months, though you can do 24 months for a lower activation fee (screw that )

Letstalk is legitimate. But the prices aren't going to beat this the ones in this link. If you're looking for the cheaper phone with the cash back rebates, I would compare letstalk to intelenet wireless.

from the reseller rating, inphonic itself is horrible at honoring rebates. My friend that got the razor from intelenet had the worse time getting their rebates. Becareful of wirefly, a1wireless, and intelenet. Ill stick with amazon anyday. Had 6 phones with them, got all my rebates. A+ for amazon.

As far as I can see, I am getting a new plan, a new phone number and paying for activation. THEN, I put in a call to transfer my current number to the new plan as described here.

There is a law "that allows customers to keep their cell phone number when they switch carriers". I am just hoping that this same law applies to intra-carrier changes as well. But I understand it may not. This is why I raised the question here. Oh well, just another way for phone companies to screw you out of money. You pay a stinking "Regulatory Programs Fee" for a service that you might not use or they might not let you use.

I just checked my email and apparently my order was cacelled, according to the email at my request about one minute after the order was placed. Of course I didn't request it to be cancelled and when I try to go to their order status page it won't come up.

When did you place your order? I haven't gotten a cancellation yet.

It looks like they added cingular to the promotion, though with two year contracts
