Wireless for Shuttle SH67H3

I'm designing a build with a Shuttle SH67H3 in mind and I'm trying to figure out a good strategy for giving it wireless Internet access. I'll probably get a two-slot video card so no room for a PCI-based wireless card. There is a mini-PCI slot on the motherboard, which can house one of those laptop-style wireless cards. However, I see some potential problems:

-- It doesn't come with the antennas so it might be tough to hunt them down. I think the assumption is that the consumer is always replacing a laptop's card and it already has the antennas.

--Laying the antennas inside the case may not pick up a good signal because the case is metal. Making the antennas stick out of the case would be lame.

I've tried searching around for information on Shuttle's site and the Internet at large and the only thing I found was someone asking this question and getting no response. Anyone have any ideas or will there be two posts online with no response?

You don't think USB will do the trick? I'm thinking of getting the SH67H3 as well and happened to notice yesterday on this site that Radio Shack B&M are dumping 300mbps Cisco Valet USB adapters at $10 each. Going to make a run around at a few stores to see if there are any left. That's the route I'm hoping to go as I have an N router.

If not, I have a bunch of $15 refurb G routers around DD-WRT capable. I'll set them up as a wireless bridge which is pretty simple, then the connection is through Ethernet. I've always thought the connection and performance through the routers was always better than to a card. Also with DD-WRT you can play with the transmit power (carefully). I might try to find a cheap N router and do the same to get better bandwidth.

Anyway, my two cents, at this point in time it's all vaporware.

Hi there

Yes it possible to use mini pci-e slot for a wifi card, some of them can include bluetooth also.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Half-Size-M...330?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19bf52741a

Beware that some of the cards are half height in which case you would need an adapter

http://www.ebay.com/itm/110603605639

You would need to purchase 2 or 3 antena cables(depend on the wifi card you choose) with the appropiate connectors and 2/3 aerials and drill 2/3 holes at the back of the case, the wifi cards use ufl conectors and the wifi aerials use RP-SMA., like these

Take a look here what this guy did to his shuttle

I'd just run over to the nearest Staples and pick up a $10 Cisco Valet USB adapter and call it a day.

Just got three adapters for $25 total in Oakland NJ. Apologies that I mentioned Radio Shack in my above post recommending using the adapter but I meant staples. At least I posted the link (whew).

Hi Stev,

I was searching also, as I have just built my new Shuttle and wanted to use the intel 5100 agn Mini PCIe card.

But I still am not sure how to proceed - The Case does have perforations that mean it is easy to pop pout the Antenna Points on the Back Plate - but what is the right kit for this?

In the meantime having a FritzBox 7390 Router, I just picked up the Fritzbox USB, plugged it into the Router for 30 seconds (Sets it up with security config automatically) then into one of the USB ports on the back of the Shuttle and it installed itself in Windows 7. within 5 minutes i had 150Mps connection.

But I would still like to modify the machine with Antenna, then I can use the Frtizbox USB Stick for something else.
