wireless internet troubles

I just moved into a new place with a Linksys BEFW11S4 (standard wireless B router) which is about 20-25 feet away from my room.

I have a laptop with a Netgear WG511 (notebook wireless G adapter) that can connect to this router with (almost) no problems. It usually takes about 2 minutes to sync, but eventually it gets connected and never drops.

For my desktop I bought a Linksys WMP54GS (desktop/PCI wireless G adapter.) Originally, I couldn't get the thing to sync with any network in the area, it would scan and find about 5 wireless networks, but couldn't connect to any of them. That is, my wireless adapter could not associate with the wireless router. One night, in my frustration, I left the Linksys app running when I went to bed, hoping that if I let it sit for a while it would eventually connect, when I woke up the next morning I was ecstatic to see it had actually connected to the router and was assigned an IP!!! My excitement quickly faded into a headache when I tried to open up Firefox. It couldn't get to any websites, and eventually the Linksys app reported that it couldn't associate with the wireless router, as usual.

Over the next day I tried a few tricks like reinstalling drivers, moving the wireless adapter to different PCI slots to no avail. Then I noticed my USB bluetooth dongle on the back of my PC, the antenna of the wireless adapter was pretty much being propped up by this other wireless device. I thought to myself "this can't be good" and promptly removed the bluetooth dongle. Lo and behold, the next time I boot up Windows, I'm internet connected within seconds and everything runs smoothly for a couple days.

The first night I try to play WoW, I go on an UBRS run and notice my latency bar is almost consistently yellow and occasionally red. Good thing I wasn't MA, the highest my latency ever reached was about 2200 ms, I'm definitely NOT used to seeing this kind of lag while playing WoW.

Last night I join up with a Scarlet Strath 5man, just as I zone into the instance, I lag out, and I lose connection to the wireless router. I reboot about three times, and still cannot associate with the router. 12 hours later, my desktop is still not able to connect, while this laptop with the Netgear wireless G card is still fine.

I'm thinking of buying a Linksys WRT54GS to replace the existing Wireless B router. Unfortunately, returning the PCI wireless adapter isn't really an option because I stupidly trashed the box and I don't think Best Buy would like that.

Anyone have experience with a situation like this? Any hints? I'm sort of a wifi noob.

tl;dr wireless networks suck, plz halp
