Wireless KB

Anyone know how far away one can sit with a wireless KB? And does one need to be directly in front of it?

I would like to sit on the couch and use the KB, but the PC would actually be on a diagonal from where I would be sitting.

I set a friend up with a $20 Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard and he gets a range of about 8 feet, with the PS2 wireless module about 3 feet off of the floor and in plain view.

I set my mom up with a $50 Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard that claims a range up to 30 feet. I put the USB dongle on the end of a 6 foot USB cable and routed it so that the USB dongle was about 3 feet off of the floor and towards the front of her hutch. She's able to use her mouse and keyboard from her easy chair, which is about 16 feet from her computer. I didn't test the maximum limit. Having the USB dongle plugged into the back of her system does limit the range, though.

Range is going to depend on which model you get. Some RF boards claim a max of 6 feet, while others claim 15 feet. Range will be further impacted by what interference you have running, line of sight, etc.

Start with the basics that RF is about 10 feet, and BT is about 30 feet.

Only time line of site is a real issue is if there are walls or large metal objects between the receiver and the KB. Just be aware that even if the product bosts 5 feet you may not get it. Mine only gets about 2 feet of the 6 it claims.

It depends on the keyboard. My 4yo RF keyboard has a crappy range of about 8 feet with nothing in the way and about 3 feet with stuff blocking the signal. My bluetooth diNovo Mini has a range of about 20 feet.

How much are you looking to spend?

I just got this Adesso and it works great. My apartment is not big enough to find a dead spot. It is pricey though.

Bluetooth will be your best for acheiving the 10' range you need.
