Bought my Dad a Sony BDP-S570. The unit decent, but my parents love the Netflix service, but this unit drops every movie. Movies rebuffer and drop always.

They have internet at 10 Mbps and they were using wireless through a dual band N router.

Ive been discussing with ISP, Sony, and Netflix and cannot fix this problem.

Does anyone else have any experiences with this?

I just looked some some reviews on this and user reviews and most of them say Netflix streaming is very poor and choppy so it looks like it just might be the model you bought sucks at streaming Netflix.

I found the same at some third party sites. Funny enough, on BB.com many reviews say it works well.

Have you turned off the security on their wireless network to see if it improves? Security uses bandwidth and makes the overall throughput slower. Doubtful that the unit has a "n" wireless card, so it is probably using "g" speeds.

You might also want to change the wireless channel, especially if there are a lot of near by networks on the same channel.

Move the router closer to the Unit (distance might be a problem, too)

I tried to do this over a laptop via a wireless g connection and never got it to work with the best quality (same issues as you are seeing). Ended up just hardwiring the house and it has been rock solid since then (with a 7mbps cable modem service)

Does it have an RJ-45 port as well? You could connect it with the hardline to see how it streams and possibly isolate whether it is the wireless, the unit, or the internet (though, you can test this last one by streaming to another device, such as a computer).

Wireless is not my choice for media streaming. It is okay for laptops and viewing web pages but I haven't found it to be the best at media. Netflix needs about 3Mbit for consistent performance and most blu ray players have a buffer of at least 64MB so you need to be able to not have the connection drop for more than 4 seconds or it will have to re-buffer.
There is a bug in the netflix code on a lot of players that causes them to slowly use up the buffer and not refill it when the connection is faster. It is supposed to download content as fast as the connection until the buffer is full then stream at the content rate unless the buffer empties. Some players empty the buffer but don't refill it at the max connection speed, causing it to stop and start over and over once it has done it once. It basically never refills the buffer, instead playing from the live stream.

Only thing you can do is complain to the manufacturer and ask for a firmware update.

I bought my parents and brother LG BD570s. So far they haven't had any issues with netflix over the wireless connection. They were on sale for $145 but I think the price is up to $175 now.

I got one before Xmass for around $130 and have played around 45 movies wireless with only one giving me a problem. For some reason it would not play smooth but all other movies played fine that day. About three days later the movie played fine so I think it may have been on Netflix side.

All in all I like the unit alot.

i feel your pain.

there is not much you can do because the issue is with the broadband backbone - basically its made out of jelly.

netflix's recent pricing changes are designed to steer the herd away from physical discs and towards more of this
streaming crapola and by doing so they are making a bad issue much worse.

I have the same sony blu ray upstairs. Frankly, it's a piece of crap. it loses connection constantly, and i've had nothing but issues. Really pisses me off to that it has all those useless channels loaded into it that i can't remove or re order.

Honestly the best netflix streaming device i've used so far is the PS3.
