After installing a new AT&T gateway I started having wireless connectivity problems with my HL-5370 on my network. The printer will install and work well for about 24 hours then all controll LED's start flashing and it looses connection with the network. Can't ping it's IP address. I can turn the printer off, and then back on and all is fine for another 24 hours and it does it again.

It works fine as a network printer if I hardwire to router with ethernet cable. I have set a static IP address for the printer. Any ideas would be appreciated.

What that means Modem Modem/Router.

May be you should consider a better description of "Wireless network" in a more technical sense.

I don't have a clue as to what info (technical) is needed but if you will advise I'm sure I can comply.

I agree, but the problem gets more complicated. I have an issue with the ethernet port on the printer. The male connector is not making good connection. It's either the small finger connectors in the port, or a bad solder joint on the board. I have to hold pressure against the ethernet plug to make good connection.

If it ain't one thing it's another. If I can't get a wireless solution I'll go further into repairing the port.

You are it's not the cable? Can you see any bent pins when you look at the port?

did you set the wifi as static ip as well?

Have tried multiple cables. Have not really checked pins in port that well. That's next step if I can't get a wireless connection going.

I reserved a range of static addresses in my router and assigned a static addresses in the printer within that range. Is that what you mean?

I meant did you check if there are two up settings in the printer, one for wired and one for wireless.

If you are doing up reservation by mac, your printer should be on DHCP and not static.

No, not using MAC reservation. I have not found two different settings in printer. Keep in mind the printer is connecting in wireless mode but will only stay connected for about 24 hours, then drops the connection. I can turn it off then back on and all is well, and it is still using the same static IP address as before.

I have not done MAC reservations before, but this might be something to try. I never had this issue with the previously used AT&T 2Wire gateway letting DHCP randomly assign the IP address.

Check if there is a lease expiry time. Also, make sure the static ips are not in the DHCP pool range.

Yes, there is a lease expire time but I didn't think this related to static addresses outside the DHCP range. And I do have the static address outside the DHCP range.

I did go in last night and change the printer to a new static IP address and as of right now it is still being recognized on the network. If that doesn't work I'm probably going to have to go another route.

After inspecting the finger pins on the Ethernet port they look fine, so my intermittent connection is probably on the circuit board, and it's pretty tough to get to. So I'll just take the printer off the network and connect usb or parallel. I can live with that.

Thanks for your help.

Brother printers are famous for losing wireless network connectivity once they go into deep sleep mode. I have few of them set up using wifi at work and they all get this issue. When they went into deep sleep mode, sometimes pressing buttons on the control panel would wake them up, but most of the time I had to pull the plug to power cycle them. Luckily, I found a workaround to keep them from going into sleep. Basically, I wrote a small app which browses to the printer's home page on a timer (every 5 min) to prevent the wifi NIC from going into sleep mode. Just by loading the printer's home page is enough to keep the wifi NIC active. I know it's defeat the purpose of energy saving, but until Brother comes out with a firmware update that fixes this issue, this will keep the users happy.
