Hi all..

I have a network printer i want to use with my existing wireless network.

Im running WPA-encryption on the wireless network and wonder if i can connect an extra Access-Point to this already working connection, since i dont have the option to put my network-printer in the wireless router due to the place where the router is set.

The Access-Point can only handle WEP-encryption, so i presume i need to "degrade" from WPA to WEP. Correct ?

I want to use the extra AP to connect my printer to my existing wireless network.

Can this be done ?

Sincerly

so the printer only uses WEP, or the AP only uses WEP?

Or, are you trying to put in a bridge, and the bridge only supports WEP?

Naa, its the AP that only supports WEP, but i have WPA on my "original" network.

Its 2 different AP´s and it was just an idea since i had a spare AP from my old apartment.

Its urgent to mention also, that i have a fully-working already established wireless network that runs WPA.

If the AP is connected to the Network with a wire, only the devices on this specific Ap needs to be WEP, the rest can saty as WPA.

but it still opens you up wide to the world because you are running WEP.

Is the printer wireless?

If the printer is not wireless what is the question? Are you asking if you can use an AP as a wired switch?

Well..

The idea is IF i can use the AP as connection link to my printer.

So the printer gets cabled to the AP.

And the AP (WEP) can connect to my wireless network that runs WPA

I think he is trying to do a wireless bridge. I would look at buying a real bridge, that supports WPA

The cheapest way is to buy the inexpensive Buffalo Wireless Router (about $40).

Flash it with DD-WRT plug the printer into it and configure the Wireless to work with the current Wireless as a Client doing WPA.

Or to degarde the whole Wireless network with the current AP to WEP, and assume that any bridge of security would cost less than $40.

P.S. Not bad it took only 3 hours anf three people to figure out what the OP is asking for.

& thx for the support. I will for sure buy an extra router and add it, so it work with my already set up WPA system.

As always, i get excellent help from within here.
