Wireless network..

Ok, got a bit of an odd setup here that I want to connect through a (mostly) wireless network. Here's the computers that I want to hook up in it:

- Gaming PC (WIRED)
- Laptop (built in wireless - Centrino)
- PC -- used mostly for uploading files to my webserver automatically every few minutes
- Girlfriend's PC -- she won't even notice the difference

I'm looking at getting the NetGear 108Mbps WGT624. So, I guess my questions are as follows:
1) I can hook up the gaming PC through a network cable, and still maintain as good as a connection as I had with my wired router, correct?
2) My laptop already has built-in wireless (centrino), so obviously I'm not going to be getting a Netgear wireless card for it, will that have any ill-effects?
3) For the other PC's, do I need to use Netgear Wireless PCI cards? Which ones in particular?

2) your centrino card will be fine
3) you can use netgear equipment if you want. Honestly it used to matter but it isn't that much of an issue now. Basically get an 802.11g card ..the cheapest one they sell

1. It is a wired router, with a built in AP.
3. Go USB as long as you have USB 2.0 ports on the desktop. Much more flexible and coverage friendly with the ability to move the antenna around and not sit behind a metal box.

Since you getting NetGear 108Mbps WGT624, you should get for Desktopa the Netgear Card that is rated 108Mb/sec. as well.

Anyone have any experience with this router? How easy is it to manage the firewall (forward ports, etc) on it? I'd like to still be able to use BT, play games etc without too much hassle.

This series of Netgear Router has interface and capacities better then most other Entry Level Routers.

If you are very experienced in this matter, you probably can figure it out as is.

Don't get the netgear wgt624. I have/had one. It's crap. I needs to be power-cycled every day or so because it hangs.

Get a linksys wrt54g instead.

Well the problem there is that I had a linksys wired router that I couldn't stand, had to recycle the power everyday with it. Got a Netgear wired router and haven't had to recycle in months. Only thing I'm debating now is going with the WGT614 instead of the 624 since it's about 60 bucks cheaper for the router and one adapter, and that's with a MIR hassle with the 624.
