Wireless Networking: Enabling WEP causes no access to internet

I have a DLink DWL-900AP wireless access point plugged into an SMC Barricade router. I can enable WEP with Active key on my AP, but when I enable WEP on my laptop (Fujitsu S Series), the built in NIC is unable to grab an IP address.

I can only access the internet if I disable the WEP on my NIC. Is there anyway to enable WEP and still be able to access internet?

On another note, is there a way to access the folders of other computers, even though my AP acts as a DHCP?

Thanks

Which OS is the Fujitsu ntoebook running? Could you walk us through the settings on the AP and the NIC? Both must be using the same SSID and channel or you wouldn't be able to connect when WEP isn't enabled. Are you entering the key as a passphrase or a hex string? Are you allowing the client to connect to whatever is available, or are you limiting it to "infrastructure / AP" connections? If this is WinXP, are you running proprietary wireless client software or are you using the operating system's utilities for controlling the wireless card?

The laptop is running XP Home. I loaded the default settings to get the connection to work, but now I can't see any of the values (IP Address, Gateway, statistics, etc).

I'm using the XP utility to connect to the AP, and the SSIDs matched, but there was no spot for the Channel.

I was entering the key as a hex string, but now that seems irrelevant as I can't get simple WEP to work.

Client connections are limited to infrastructure.

So, it still stands that its working w/o WEP, but I can't see any of the values in the config. utility.

Yes, with quite a few more details about settings being used on both the AP and the wireless NIC, with emphasis on the differences between the way the system looks with WEP not enabled and the way it looks when WEP is enabled.

Make sure you have the same key typed in on both the AP and notebook or it won't work.
