i have a problem with my network thats been bugging me for a while. I start up my computer (the client, the host is always on) and the internet works. I can use AIM and browse my sites and stuff. But if i dont use the 'net for a while, then it stops working and I have to restart. That's not all though. When I play a game online there is a constant lag. The game will run fine and then bam it stops for a while and then continues like nothing happened. What really makes me angry is that my network has worked fine before, but something has been changed that I can't find that is screwing me over. There is some connection or setting that I am missing or hardware thing that I don't know about. Please help.

specs and info:
client machine is a dell L800R P3 800 with a 20 gig hard drive 512 mb ram, using the intel anypoint II wireless USB adapter.
host machine is a new dell with a P4 1.8 ghz, 40 gig hard drive and 7-something mbs ram and another intel anypoint II wireless USB adapter.

both machines are using ics

http://www.intel.com/anypoint/

ive checked the workgroup settings, the encryption settings, and all that stuff, and its the same on both machines.

here is the ip info on the client:

thanks for the help ahead of time

I dunno if this will help, I'm using the netgear MR814 and it happens to me all the time. What I do is unplug the cat5 connecting my cable modem to my router and my cable modem and turn off my router, then turn it on again and plug everything back in usually that makes internet work again.

This doesn't fix the lag but it may enable you to get the internet working without restarting.

I too would like to know about a permanent solution to this annoying problem.

it seems like you are experiencing more than just lag in the game. You might want to try using the hardware reset switch on the router or updating the firmware on the router. FIrst a couple questions, are you using ppoe for your internet connection or is it an always on connection? You might also want to try connecting with a cat5 cable and see if you still experience this "lag," it might just be a problem related to your wireless setup and not the actual network or the internet connection. i hope this helps

apparentley the sudden internet failure was caused by a thing called EAPOL connection. every time it ran it killed the connection. its supposedly fixed now (although im still a little wary) but the lag is the same. im sure its not the range because it has worked fine before, there is just something not right with the software now that is causing this problem.

EAPOL is 802.1x autnentication. Turn off on both client devices. Sounds like you may have already done that. As far as the lag goes, you might try uninstalling the driver, then reinstalling with the most current driver set. You should also try to move the PC's closer together to test and see if that helps. Do you have any software utility that tells you signal strength and quality? If so what are those numbers?

i think im having the same kind of problems this guy is having. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=1085015
i tried the solutions mentioned in that thread and they did not work. ive tried disabling all the encryption but that doesnt do anything either. i dont have any software to tell me the exact strength of my connection but the little icon in the taskbar tells me the signal strength is "good". :/ intel hasnt relased any new drivers for my ap's and they stopped supporting them a couple months ago. the lag is killing me plz help

What do you wanna know. Sounds like it might be a Windows Zero wireless configuration issue in the post before your Ad Hoc question. I'd disable it to find out.

how do you disable Windows Zero wireless config? is it just and service? and if the way to stop it is run "NET STOP WZCSVC" then I've already tried that and it doesn't fix anything. ty anyway
