OK, I'm going to have to figure out some way to get internet access for both of my desktop computers at the same time. I have SBC Yahoo! DSL currently on the computer downstairs, and I have a laptop upstairs with a wireless card that I use for internet upstairs. I'm going to install a phone jack and line upstairs so I can use my DSL modem on my new computer (so I can play Xbox Live without having to run my laptop). My question is though, how am I going to be able to connect to the internet on the desktop computer downstairs? Would I wireless card like this:

Airlink AWLH4030 108Mbps Wireless-G PCI Adapter Card

Work in a similar way as the wireless card in my laptop? Could I just plug this card into my desktop computer and connect to the internet wirelessly off of the modem upstairs?

You need that card _and_ a wireless router, unless your modem has a router built-in.

modem <- router <- wired port on router <- xbox
<- wireless signal from router <- card in desktop downstairs

If your modem does have a built-in router then yes, that's all you need

Yeah, my modem does have a router built in, but do you think it would conflict with my laptop's wireless signal? Or would the laptop and the desktop just share the wireless connection?

Wifi is _for_ networks of multiple computers, so they should live together in peace.

If your Modem is a combo with Wireless Cable/DSL Router it would not conflict even if you use hundred Wireless computers.

If your Wireless is Ad-Hoc it will not work with more computers.

If you are not sure what you have describe better your system and post model numbers.

But even if it is Ad-Hoc, it should be able to run them both, just not at the same time, right? Could I turn off the laptop but still get the wireless signal to the desktop, and vice versa?

Yeah if it is Ad-HOC you can run them one at the time.

However, a Cable/DSL Router on slae/rebate is not more expensive than a Card.

So if you have already two cards put them into the computers and buy a Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

You can configure it as an Access Point and Hook it to you Modem/Router.
