Okay my existing setup was a cable broadband connection, Linksys wired router and three PCs around the house.
The other day I bought an almost-new laptop with some with a Dlink Extreme G bundle (router and laptop card). In the interest of testing everything out quick I just plugged the Dlink router into the uplink on my Linksys router, and got the laptop's wireless card up and running quickly.
Now my questions. Should I be moving my other PCs over to the wired ports on the wireless router? Or would it not really be any faster than the existing router since it's just a regular broadband connection.
If I had three wired devices on the new Dlink Extreme G router, how many wireless devices can I have on it (I have just one now, more on that in a second). Only four total? Or is it unlimited on the wireless side? (It's only me and the wife here so really only one wireless PC would be used at a time). The manual is not telling me if there is a limit on the amount of wireless computers I can hook into this.
The reason I ask the last set of questions is that I have some PCs in the basement too, not hooked up to the internet right now. One is a permanent computer and the rest are ones I am putting together for friends. I'd like to put a wireless PCI card in the permanent one and get a wireless USB card to temporarily hook the others up to the internet. Should I make sure to get another Dlink Extreme G card for the permanent computer and the Dlink USB adaptor for the other temporary hookups?
Any of this make sense? If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.
