How many of you are using Wifi with your desktop comp? If you are, do you have it built into the mobo or are you using a separate card, and how reliable is it?

Also, is anyone using the latest draft of 802.11n? When will it be finalized and will all the currently available hardware/routers be compatible with driver/firmware updates?

Thanks.

It does not matter how many here use Wireless in desktop. You have to make decision about the usage of technology out of your needs and not because of other people needs.

It is always better to use wire. If there are environmental constrains that prevent the use of wire people usually use Wireless.

As for Draft_N compatibility, No one really knows. Those who promise compatibility talk about marketing and wishful thinking.

There is No standard because the parties Fight between themselves, when the standard would emerge the losers might have compatibly problems.

Who would be the losers? Nobody knows.

I am using Wifi on my desktop comp. My computer is 50ft away from the base station and in another room so wired was not an option. I am using a Linksys USB wireless drive. I was going to use a PCI card but then I didn't want to have to install it and stuff.

They are mostly compatible with each other (draft 2.0). I remember reading a table that said that the N spec will be done sometime this year.

Thanks folks.

I would even prefer wireless-G over wired, as long as it's reliable. I've read a lot of complaints on Newegg about wireless connections dropping out on Asus mobos with built in wifi. However, I can only take those reviews with a grain of salt and am more interested in hearing what Anandtech members have to say about it.

Chaotic, ever have problems with your connection? My laptops work just fine with a Linksys WRT-54something router.

Wireless problems are a function of mainly user error and a noisy environment. The cards aren't rocket science.
