Wireless pci card suggestions?

I am looking to put together a wireless netwok and I have decided on the MR814 netgear router, I think I will get it from googlegear unless I can find it cheaper. Now I am not sure which pci card to get though. I am thinking about the D-Link AirPlus DWL-520+, but I am not sure what else is good or not and I am looking for a good price but quality. Any help would be appreciated.

Why PCI.

Unless the Wireless is in the same room, or you use good external Antenna the PCI is going to be obstructed by your computer case.

Well limited usb ports was a main reason. Are there any quality concerns with usb over pci or vice versa?

Need sugestions please. I need to order these pretty soon and I know very little about which brands of pci cards/usb adapters are best.

From what I know the USB ones add a little bit more of processor overhead (managing data transfers on the USB connections) which slows down both your computer by a little and probably offers slightly less performance.

I had to choose a week ago and I chose USB because:

1) it is generally cheaper
2) I might want to use it on a laptop later and buying the USB version enables me to do this with ease
3) I don't game on the computer that is connected to the network using the USB antenna
4) I find that being able to move the actual antenna around is a good thing

When it comes to Entry Level Wireless Clients almost all of them are based on PCMCIA cards. The PCI and the USB are PCMCIA with additional interface circuitry, the resultant is some what (about 5%-10%) less bandwidth than pure PCMCIA.

As for USB taking processor power! Yeah USB is depending on CPU processing but you will not feel any difference on any of the current computer since they have plenty of Giga power. If you still use a Celeron 450MHz than you probably will feel the pinch. :Q

Same here. I also have a Netgear MA311 (802.11b) that works well. I bought that card for easy installation with linux.

compusa has a netgear wireless router on sale untill saturday, 49.99 after rebates. if i was buying any networking stuff i would get seimens and then linksys. dlink and smc scare me. you also might want to look into a powerline/wireless router. powerline technology kicks ass. just remember that any wireless conenction can be broekn in about 20 mins even witha uniqe SSID and encryption. seimens makes a nice wireless powerline combo router for 99.99
