Wisconsin -1 Lake

so, we had a "little" rain up here in Wisconsin over the past few days (11+ inches in 3-4 days) rivers flooded etc all over the place. Lake up in the Dells area basically buckled and teamed up with nearby river.

i saw that on the news this morning. i live in waukesha right down by the fox river in an apartment. the news crews have been all over the place this morning and the water level is crazy. i cannot get into the parking garage in my complex because of the high water. i had to park in a municipal lot nearby last night and most likely will have to agian tonight and probably tomorow. i have never seen anything like this in my life. they also said this morning that the 11 inches we got over the weekend is equal to the average total for the whole summer, and shattered the old record of 8.something inches.

I'm right in Wauwatosa. We went down to the Menominee shortly after round one. The river had crested above all the pedestrian bridges, flooded heart park (40+ ft out from the normal river banks)... amazing the rain we took on.

Governor has said they are going to repair/refill the lake.... Ummm yeah. Its no small pond. I'm not footing the bill so these people can reclaim their lakefront property.

To my understanding it wasn't so much any human design thing that failed, it was literally the land mass between the lake and river that pretty much gave way. Dare I say it was "natural" in occurrence (granted obviously there are homes, roads, dams etc that all played into the equation)

i would be interesting to see what it will look like once things have settles down a bit as well, but i have a feeling it is going to be like a swamp and have no tourist attraction what so ever which will be very bad for the surrounding area. i dont even want to know what it will cost to fix but hopefully the federal government will kick in something. we will just have to wait and see what happens i guess.
