Its definitely a law, there is really no argument to be had about that.

That being said, I disagree with the ruling because I don't see how the law was violated.

As I said, if you want to be techincal legislative rules are "laws" but in the context of this discussion, the "laws" are realistically "rules" and are set by the body themselves. But hey, keep trying.

It's good to see you aren't as blinded as the rest of the leftists on this and can see that no rules were broken.

For some reason I thought there was a requirement for a twenty-four hour notification.

State supreme court ruled liberal activist judge overstepped her authority. Law was passed constitutionally. Another victory for Walker and Wisconsin tax payers.

Tuesday's opinion, signed by three of the Supreme Court's seven justices, said the circuit-court judge, Maryann Sumi, exceeded her authority. The justices wrote, "One of the courts that we are charged with supervising has usurped the legislative power which the Wisconsin Constitution grants exclusively to the legislature."

Justice David Prosser, who narrowly survived a re-election battle in April that became a referendum on the collective-bargaining law and Mr. Walker's policies, issued a separate concurring opinion

Any idea where a pdf of the full decision is? That was a 4-3 decision and frankly the holding that a court doesn't have the jurisdiction to enforce the open meetings law against the legislature is nonsensical to me. If the circuit court (a court of general jurisdiction in WI) doesn't have authority to enforce that statute against the legislature, then who does? That pretty much guts the statute-which I greatly doubt was the intention of the legislature when they passed the open meetings law in the first place.

But I've certainly read enough newspaper articles about legal matters to have many doubts that the substance of the opinions was correctly reported. I'd hate to think that the WI Supreme Court has sunk so low as to be results oriented rather than law oriented.

In any event this is yet another lesson in how important it is to vote. If Prosser lost this likely would have been 4-3 the other way.

How does the rich benefit from the union not raping the tax payer?

Because it just sounds so good to say. Rich people am teh debil.

As most others have stated, both righties and lefties, private sector unions are fine. The part where they disagree is that public sector unions need to go away.

Just read an interesting article on the effects this legislation is having on schools.
I don't know if the Washington Examiner is a right or left paper, but if the details are true, this is looking very good for the schools.

Some excerpts:

The Kaukauna School District, in the Fox River Valley of Wisconsin near Appleton, has about 4,200 students and about 400 employees. It has struggled in recent times and this year faced a deficit of $400,000. But after the law went into effect, at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, school officials put in place new policies they estimate will turn that $400,000 deficit into a $1.5 million surplus. And it's all because of the very provisions that union leaders predicted would be disastrous.

In the past, Kaukauna's agreement with the teachers union required the school district to purchase health insurance coverage from something called WEA Trust -- a company created by the Wisconsin teachers union. "It was in the collective bargaining agreement that we could only negotiate with them," says Arnoldussen. "Well, you know what happens when you can only negotiate with one vendor." This year, WEA Trust told Kaukauna that it would face a significant increase in premiums.

Now, the collective bargaining agreement is gone, and the school district is free to shop around for coverage. And all of a sudden, WEA Trust has changed its position. "With these changes, the schools could go out for bids, and lo and behold, WEA Trust said, 'We can match the lowest bid,'" says Republican state Rep. Jim Steineke, who represents the area and supports the Walker changes. At least for the moment, Kaukauna is staying with WEA Trust, but saving substantial amounts of money.
