I was getting a cavity in one of my wisdom teeth, so they decided it was easier to pull them. But I only had the upper 2. Went for the general IV and was out for the fun. Never felt and pain, nor any swelling. I even went into the dentist the next day to make an appointment, and they couldn't believe that I'd just had my wisdom teeth pulled less then 24 hours before. Didn't even take time off from work.

I had them removed before they had erupted (it was clear that there wasn't enough room for them to come up without messing the rest of my teeth). They gave me an IV sedative, injected novocane, sliced the gums, pulled the teeth, and sent me on my way with some percocet. You're awake and can still feel a bit, but you have little control over your body and you really don't care. Good times.

If it's any consolation it went painlessly for me. I had some meds, all 4 impacted removed at once, and had little swelling/pain.

Simple. The dentists recommend you take them out because that's money in their pockets. Whether it's growing in fine or not, the dentist has an opportunity to make some money since it's not crucial that one has his or her wisdom teeth. Go to several dentists to make sure you absolutely need to take them out. I went to two dentists and one said I needed to take them out while the other one said it's growing out straight.

Getting wisdom teeth out always seemed like a scam to me. Dentists always tell me to get them out even I have never had pain in any of them. The latest dentist said, "One is coming in crooked, so we might as well pull both top ones out. And since we are pulling two of the out, we might as well pull the other two also."

They gave me a referral and I ignored it. Then, 2 months later, the place they referred me to called me up asking when I was going to make an appointment!

bah...

The worst part about getting your wisdom teeth pulled is the drooling for 2 days.

My teeth weren't impacted or whatever, and I'd actually consider it a pleasurable experience... free pain killers... and no pain. Very little blood, that's it. Blood? Pffft.... I hope you're not scared of blood.

I was 21 when I had them out, though.

This whole wisdom tooth thing is a sham anyway. Unless there is something wrong with them you don't even need to get them pulled. Dentists just like to make money. My dentist friend has admitted as much.

Well it sure hurt when I got mine out. But, it was all four out at once, they were all rather impacted, and my oral surgeon routinely doesn't use sutures to close the holes. The drugs were nice, though. One thing I did find was that sleeping sitting up for the first few nights after I had them removed helped ease the throbbing pain.
I have had friends that had them out and were back the next day with little or no swelling or pain. So good luck.

You only had the upper two?? Where did the other ones go? The reason I ask is that my brother only had his upper two grow in, and now he's worried that the other two are floating around somewhere causing mischief. Do some people only get two?

Uh, that's bad? I was back to normal the next day for all intents and purposes. Didn't even end up using any of my vicoden. Those things really suck btw. I'm a very fast healer but even so, it really can't be that bad.

No problems for me, all four done at once. Just a series of eight novacaine pricks. Reach in, yank out. The worst part was the feeling of the tooth being pulled out of the socket. But minimal pain. No meds beyond Motrin, since I had to drive. I still have 'em in a little packet on my dresser back home - considered going native and making a necklace out of them, but throught that might freak people out.

Just be damn careful afterwords not to get dry socket, or to dislodge the clot. Keep food away from the area.

Good luck. And get the Good Stuff

Still got my Wisdoms. But I had to have 7 (count em, *seven*) teeth pulled to get braces. That sucked. They knocked me out, and I ate soup for about a month. Good thing I was a kid, and had not developed a tolerance to alchohol and painkillers like now .

If you get a proper surgeon to do it, it'll be fine. The day I had to get mine pulled, the surgeon just happened to be in the office, so he did it for me. My cheeks swelled up the next few days as expected, but no pain whatsoever.

I got lucky

I was out the whole time...little pain, little fuss. The drugs were fun though .

btw...I wish scheduling an appointment to have my wisdom teeth removed was the worst phone call I ever had to make...

I'm sure it's possible for some people to only get two....I didn't have any wisdom teeth so getting only 2 seems like it wouldn't be impossible.

Had my wisdom teeth removed when I was young (16 or 17 forgot). They didn't grow in yet but the Dr. just made a small incision in my gum then smashed the teeth with some vibration or something. I was asleep the whole time but I looked like a chipmunk for several weeks.

One of my wisdom teeth is impacted in my jaw bone, so I don't think they will be removing that one (I hope). Probably the same case.

Ouch! Does it cause any pain? Sounds to me it may be best to leave that one.

I got my wisdom teet out when I was 16... suck it up. Don't be put under, just get some injections (They feel nice . Plus the novicaine wore off 2/3'ds of the way through the pulling. They were partially impacted, and 2 were impacted. You can hear and feel them breaking and snapping as they chisel them out. I ended up with a hole into my sinuses because the one root went way up.

Yeah, that's, that's, pretty much the exact reason why I wanted to be put out all the way while it was happening.

the days after my wisdom teeth extractions were some of the best days of my life. I was treated like a king.

Plus my oral surgeon was great. No pain at all.
