I am in the process of doing so. I am about half done .. They are doing the gathering thing with the Mud People.

What did you think of the book if you read it? As the first fantasy-type book I've gotten into, I think it's very creative and imaginative, but probably due to my own lack thereof. One thing I did notice though, is there are many spelling mistakes! Even my father, who is French, noticed this!

He made the loose/lose mistake ... Pretty unacceptable for an author if you ask me. It was supposed to be lose, but it was written "loose". I understand that it's possible that the author's mother tongue was not English, but in such a case, why would he be writing English novels?

Anyway, so far the book is very good, it keeps you reading and reading. If you start reading this thing at 11pm, don't expect to be asleep before 2:30am.

I started two days ago from the beginning, and got to Chapter 8 that night (around 2:30am) and had to go to school waking up at 7am.

Now I think I'm around page 360-400, I'm not sure, haven't kept track exactly...

Well I got a scare when Richard thought Kahlan had been lost in the pass to the underworld.. hehe, I was like "WTF, HOW COULD HE KILL HER OFF???".. The book wouldn't have been the same without her.. But she'll probably end up dying anyway.

Well, I gotta go, CS class will be over and I have to go to lunch, then my next classes! PM or email me if you wanna contact me personally, as I may lose this thread (to the underworld, hehe) and not be able to find it again.. I may not be able to find it next time I have access to the net.

Well, see "y'all" later.

I think you'll find the series an excellent read. I've read it through twice, and thoroughtly enjoyed it. In many ways, I think it is superior to Jordan's novels, which are the most direct competitor to these (they share many similarities).

The entire lose/loose error is often an editorial problem rather than one caused by the author. I noticed it when I read through it as well, along with the usual small number of typographical and spelling errors that creep into just about any mass market book these days.

All that said, highly recommend this series!

I put this book series 2nd only to Tolkien. He has a superior story telling ability that not many authors have these days. Even though his books are pretty long, they keep you riveted on every page. His last book "Faith of the Fallen" was probably one of the best yet, even though he doesn't have much magic going on in this book. I wrote a letter to him to say how taken I was by his books and he sent me a personal letter signed in his own hand and a autographed bookmark. Very cool guy and I look forward to his next book, whick by the way he said he is already working on!

Yes, I thought "Faith of the Fallen" is very good story-wise. Pretty good strategic move he made in there (although it wasn't very intentional...). But the way he trys to put in these philosophy (wizard's rules) in there is getting kind of annoying, and when he starts mentioning these rules in the books it breaks the flow of the story for me.

Minor Spoiler

But its getting too sweet for my taste ... everything always turns out okay, nobody important ever died, blah blah blah. Sort of figured that out by book 3, and by now, I don't expect anything bad to happen to any major characters, so even if Kahlan is being surrounded by 10 million sisters of the dark in book 7 I'd still think she'll make it out alright ... maybe break a few bones again but nothing major ...

It's a good series, but not one of my favorites. There's too much non-sensical BS in the later books, and he's picked up Jordan's habit of plodding along and dragging things out. But I do have to say that I truly loved books 1 and 2. Darken Rahl is one of my favorite villains of all time and the Confessors are a unique twist.

I've been reading George R. R. Martin's latest offering "A Storm of Swords" and it's very impressive. I highly recommend it.

hmm I have read wizards first rule and 3 others in the series.. I thought they were very good but just like jordan they start to get long winded and nonsensical as the books go on, I think there is a 5th in the series out now but I haven't bothered to pick it up yet.

The first rule of wizard's first rule is don't talk about wizard's first rule.

Sorry I had to do it.

Well I am now at Chapter 32! That was a close call for Kahlan!

Dammit why don't they just get it on and see who wins the fighting afterwards.. Seriously, if they're both so afraid of killing each other uncontrollably of their power... u know, they'd probably end up just beating each other up a bit .. ... rough sex.

I know what you mean about it dragging on, but so far it's not too bad in this book, it's kept me reading, which is usually hard to do to me.
