wmplayer.exe pissing me off

I just noticed wmplayer.exe open, figured it was the typical bug where it doesn't close when you "X" WMP out. I end the process, it starts right back up. I end it like 20 more times and every time it restarts itself.

I tried checking startup folder, not there. Checked startup process in ccleaner, not there. I disable network sharing in services so it won't start. Still, it keeps starting itself.

Anyone know of this issue? Or quick fixes for it? I definitely know it didn't do this a week ago. The only thing I have installed in the past week (or since this started) was a FLV player earlier today. I plan on running comodo, spybot, and maleware bytes tonight when I go to bed.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a process masquerading as wmplayer.exe. Can you start Windows Media Player?

Yes I can start WMP just fine and run videos. When I rightclick>showfilelocation on the process it brings me to wmplayer.exe in it's normal location. (programfiles/windowsmediaplayer)

Also I searched for wmplayer.exe and the only one that exists is the one that won't stop running. When I go to the WMP directory and doubleclick the .exe that won't go away in processes, WMP will show up, but before that the process just sits there running with WMP not in sight.

*edit note* Also, when I go to the file location of the harassing process (which is the only wmplayer.exe on my HDD, in the WMP directory as stated before) the last date it was modified was on the day I installed win7.

*edit note2* If I run a video, the process will jump up in memory usage but still only 1 wmplayer.exe. If I end the process, WMP will close but wmplayer.exe will just drop in memory usage and stay in the list.

Just an update/bump;

I woke up today with both spybot and malware bytes clean and noticed wmplayer.exe taking up less memory than last night (roughly 1.5MB, 7.5MB+ before). I end it, and it stays off!...I restart my PC just to make sure and it's right there again back at 7.5MB+ and continues to reopen itself.

Not sure why it's doing this but I have a feeling it's some kind of virus not being detected, because this has never happened before..

I believe it is a service that is running so when you end the process, it starts right back up and therefore you need to disable the service. I have experienced this with Vista.

Try going into your services and see if you can disable it.

Do you have a Logitech gaming keyboard?

I had this respawn issue and it was driving me crazy!

Read here for more info:

Ugh, I love you. I do have a G15, applied the solution in the thread, restarted, no more wmplayer.exe respawning (or even starting for that matter).

Why I thought it was suspicious is because I didn't see that happen since I've reformatted windows7 ever, till recently. Maybe I just wasn't noticing it...either way, THANK YOU!

Thanks for posting that link. It contained the solution for the wmplayer.exe issue I was having. Specifically the instructions in post #14 worked for me.

Now I have the urge to kick someone at Logitech for even designing something this way. A G110 keyboard in my case.
