Hey y'all, so I bought a MSI GTX 970 gaming 4g last year on newegg for $348.99, I just got a 4k monitor and was toying around with the idea of at least getting my system able to run 1440p at 60fps on ultra everything. I got on newegg and my exact card is now priced at $599.78! (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127832). I remember way back when I built my first PC the GTX 470 I bought for it was around the same price of $350. GTX 1070's are now at cheapest $400 and some on newegg are up to $900!! Last year $900 was only a few hundred shy of what the titan X was! So is this a seasonal thing as far as prices or have they just jumped up $100 across the board? I was hoping to pick up another 970 for cheap to run in SLI but no way that's going to happen with the current prices, and $400 for a 1070 isnt worth the upgrade as I can just deal with 1080p for a few years until my gpu gets real out of date. Just wondering since after I built my system around august last year I stopped paying attention to GPU prices.

You need to remember that when they stop manufacturing the cards people love to hike the prices even if they are obsolete as the newer gen can be gotten for cheaper and perform much better.

Your best option instead of getting a new one is to look for used versions in various sites.

so im assuming its all demand since nvidias MSRP of the 1070 is $379 and I could not find a single 1070 on new egg at that price.
I am also assuming based upon what you guys are saying is that nvidia artificially boosted the price of the 970 to increase sales of the 1070? I mean, it kinda makes sense but were talking almost a 60% price increase for an outdated card, that just seems extreme to me.

It's not nVidia. It's shady third party retailers.

TBH You really shouldn't buy anything from Newegg that isn't sold & shipped by them.

I see one that's $5 over it and a few for that price after a rebate and one on amazon for msrp.

The only user that would buy a GTX 970 today is a user who's had one for two years and wants to fiddle with 2x SLI. It's all subjective, but that motive might tempt someone to pay more for one now than the original MSRP.

Unless they realize that selling the 970 they have and replacing it with a single 1070 is a pretty sweet step up.

Meh I'd love to buy a newer card but costs are prohibitive forcing me to stay with my old 780ti.

Huh... well, how will you explain a "Founders Edition" cards by nV then?
What's to explain about them?

They were the first versions out for awhile and costs are higher for the initial release versions because of demand and how much companies can charge for them initially.

Their prices are a lot lower because of competition now.

That was me a few months ago. Now I'm waiting for 1080Ti
