You should be good to go. Gillbot has been good for several weeks now!

LOL, the funny thing is...I pieced the ideas and scripts together from searches on Yahoo (multiple searches and quite a bit of reading). I didn't write the scripts, I only found bits and pieces (some quite large) and tested them with Gillbot until we found something that worked well. Glad to have helped!

Why this was important to me! I have four adult children (reason for the router) and live in Titusville, PA (near Erie). I have two daughters and their families in Boston that we visit regularly (reason for my laptop). Last spring, I thought it would be great to be able to "see" this desktop from any location with TeamViewer. So I had everything set up and working (I thought) and tested it from my son's house in Olean, NY, about 90 miles from here. That failure led to months of trying to fix this thing. I'd mess with it for a day then not get into it for weeks, maybe months. I'd tried all the tricks .128, TamperData (a Firefox extension that can capture and alter java input) but the WRT54GS was to smart! Last week we were in Boston and I was checking the temp in my house via a web cam. With a little freeware app called Wake Up From Stand-By I can schedule the desktop to come out of hibernation and with TViewer put it back in hibernation. This worked until we had a power bleep (UPS is next investment) and for four days had no idea whether the house was OK or not. I'd been reluctant to try the firmware upgrades but became interested again from this thread and also, like Gillbot, was not interested in getting into PuTTY and SSH. As you probably noticed from your searches, this is really a huge (in the context of folks trying it, not sure how many would actually be into it) problem with failure reported across dozens of forums. That was my point, and in jest, about pinning it on the search engines. Anyway, sorry for the life story and thank you again!

ok, stupid question but what port does this change broadcast over? I'm using a WOL packet sniffer to troubleshoot another machine that won't WOL but the packet sniffer never sees a packet on ANY of the machines using the WAN but if I use the internal broadcast and set a port it's fine.

That's a good question and to be honest, I don't know. Did you try to listen on the forwarded port that you set in your router (the one forwarded on xxx.xxx.xxx.254 I assume)? That's the only one that I could possbily think it could be.

I used 2222 as the port forward and the packet sniffer sees nothing at that port, nor 7 or 9. I even used the Tomato WOL page and tried, it saw no activity. I'm guessing the packet sniffer isn't listening on the proper port.

well, after a long time of success it decided to stop working again.

No idea why but i've given up. I see now why many of the IT people I talk to say they don't use WOL. It just isn't reliable and it's too picky.

It may be a fault of the machine itself. It's an nVidia chipset and we all know how quirky those are. I need to test it out on my other system, I just haven't had the time.
