I'm curious if it is possible to send a WOL(WAN) signal directly to a router or whatever device is on the other end of the modem?
I'm planning on running my pfsense inside a VM on a machine with its own dedicated card. If the machine is shut down, but configured such that it will wake up on WOL packet... assuming it's directly connected to the modem, will this work or is there some limitation ?
I should clarify that i want the physical machine to come online when the signal is sent, not the VM (this would be part of the startup sequence).
Although it would be cool if there was some way to reboot the VM/router automatically if hung, but thats another topic. I suppose i could have one of the internal machines monitor and when it goes down send some cmd to vm console to reboot it.
