It was like watching a SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skit without the word flubs from Connery.

Seriously, how the hell could Blitzer answer "Jerusalem" as the birthplace of Jesus? Blitzer freaking began his career working for Reuters in Jerusalem...

Yet Andy's career has gone absolutely nowhere.
I wouldn't call being the announcer on the Tonight Show w/ Conan O'Brien hitting it big.
Millions of people tune in and see him every night, the fuck else do you want
They're not tuning in to see him.

which is probably why he said "and see him" not "to see him"

Exactly. When was the last time Wolf Blitzer even had an opinion? All he does is sit there and read what other people think, off a card. You could replace him with a powerpoint presentation.

He never listens the interviewees responses, so he often ends up asking moot follow up questions. I'm not sure why or how he has stayed employed so long.

Because he's safe, non-threatening and mediocre. He's not too good looking, not too tall, not too smart and not too opinionated. He's the perfect anchor to quell the dull, listless masses.

If the powerpoint presentation was named "Wolf Blitzer" or at least had a picture of a wolf (or 3!) I'd watch

No, you are absolutely right.

I thought it was funny she had those black rimmed glasses though as soon as the game started.

As psychologists say, Americans want to see the "everyman".....someone like them....average and non threatening with his looks, intelligence, attitude.....

.........someone like George Bush.

Ah yes, the simple explanation - he must be stupid. Of course, it is just as plausible that he doesn't handle the format very well. e.g. some highly intelligent persons crack when they are put under some pressure to perform (such as test/exam anxiety).

exactly. the pressure of all those cameras facing him, knowing that he'll be on tv, etc

oh wait

Yes, lots of pressure

And sorry, but if he was going to have such anxiety issues he would have declined to be on the show in the first place.
Right, because everyone has at least six or seven competitive quiz bowl type contests under their belt by Wolf's age, and thus would already know how they would perform under such a contest. Everyone knows this.

I've played similar games where I kept losing answers that I knew because I wasn't fast enough at the buzzer. After becoming frustrated that I was losing at the buzzer, I adopted a strategy to just buzz in first, then hope the answer came to me. It was a terrible strategy, but I wouldn't have known it until I tried it.
