Well, the idea is that society must take care of each other. If i can hold you responsible for the actions of your brother or sister, you will make sure that he or she does not make mistakes. You will make sure that you ask for help when he or she will go wrong. If he or she has fundamental or idiotic cultural idea's about hurting other people, you will make sure you will try to prevent him or her. Even with the help of your neighbors, other family members and so on. What he did was wrong. And what he did, he did not just invented himself. There must have been signals. This is not the first case of acid attacks in Islamic countries. That is why i selected the sentence as i did. You have to understand that there are people within his close proximity who agree with him. If they agree, they must share his fate. But his fate must not be to be punished for ever in "hell". His fate must be able to accept that his views where wrong and that he must undo what he has done. Or karma will happen and the cycle of violence will continue. I chose my sentence because there is a strong social control, and that is good when used properly.
A ruling in a court is on a case to case basis when properly done.
This sentence may not work for another person with another crime and thus must not happen for that case. I agree i do not know all details. But if i understand the way of life a bit there, the family knew the girl as well. And if they know the girl, they must have known what that guy was up to. If they did not, then their fate is a warning for other families.

Why do you need to hear of heinous acts perpetrated against someone to validate your opinion? I've had some crazy shit happen to me, and I've felt real bad about myself, but more so, I feel bad for the criminal. The perpetrator was educated, blinding him ruins society's potential. The guy fucked up, huge, but I don't think that means he should have acid poured in his eyes. Make him work the rest of his life proving restitution to the victim, not make him spend the rest of his life as more of drain on society.
If th is happened to me, my knee jerk reaction would be to blind that mofo just like me, but honestly, that solves nothing, and I don't really want it. I'd rather have that guy work for society at twice the tax rate than be crippled and thrown aside.
