I live in San Diego, lived in Los Angeles for 7 years and commuted all over that area, and I can honestly say that you are a fucking dumbass. I see shitheads like you texting while driving all the time and I just want to smash your window, grab that fucking phone out of your worthless hands and throw it across the freeway.

I may just do that one of these days... I just hope it's you I do it to. If a motorcyclist on a red Ducati smashes your window and grabs your phone it might be me. I'll try to say hi before I beat the shit out of you.

Yeah tough guy on the internet huh?

You fucking losers make me laugh lol, and of course it's an idiot biker making threats on P&N. Statistically speaking your idiot ass is 26x as likely to die as I am!

$4,000 bike? Can I fly over the moon with it?

Also, Bikers think they own the road. Here in Virginia and DC, they have bike lanes, but that is not enough for these people. Several bikers have been hit trying to ride in traffic. It is not uncommon to see them weaving in between cars during traffic jams.

LOL!
In the annals of dumb hurled "insults" on the Internet by people not bright enough to hurl an effective insult, that one is up there!

Do tell us, what burg do you hail from that's higher on anyone's list of "wanna live there" than San Diego?

Theoretically yes. However, I'm sure Jason Marshall's Strava page (which logged the bicycle trip, including speeds) will be used as evidence if charges are indeed brought against him. Seems as though his logging a faster time included the foolish decision to swerve instead of brake, which could have cost this woman her life.

So MAYBE he was doing a 28 in a 25, and they have no proof of it? Yeah, sounds like they got an iron tight case there.

So? Some people want nicer things. Not everyone wants to ride on a Walmart POS. Just like people want to buy more expensive cameras, computers, or cars.

As for what you see: congratulations. You probably only remember the bad apples. Not everyone rides like a jerk.

Lady shouldn't have been trying to cross the street, the fact he tried to avoid her by swerving will be in his favor rather than against.

Yup. Honk at them to make sure they know you're there. Plenty of videos of these nutters intentionally hitting cars trying to get YouTube famous.

Then when they realize that the video implicates them for insurance fraud they pull the video.

Lane splitting is illegal in VA and is universally stupid but epically so for bicyclists. That's another example of bicyclist misbehavior where they should be held completely at fault if they get squashed like a grape between two cars.

If you are unable to stop in time to avoid someone in a crosswalk you are going too fast.

Not necessarily. Depends on the distance you have to stop. Especially if he had a green light and pedestrian jaywalked into a car lane he was in.

Then giving us plenty of links won't be a problem.

That's entry level pricing for enthusiasts.

http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/mountain/epic

Just the Epic frame is $6k

http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/road/tarmac

just the Tramac frame for disc brakes is $5.5k

just a couple examples.

Computer enthusiasts build rigs that cost $4k.

The guy was riding an out of production steel Jamis (which is a mid range mainstream brand) road bike modified with aero bars for TT duty. The 7800 DuraAce rear derailleur he posted about on Strava is 2 generations old. I don't think he was rolling in it. The haters are trying to portray him as some kind of rich snob, which is just ridiculous.
People read NY Post, which is just a tabloid troll bait, made by same company that runs Fox News. Of course they are going to try to inflame some sort of emotional reaction.

I'm waiting for SA's next threads in the continuing epidemic of vehicles that run over pedestrians in NYC. I'm sure we'll be waiting a long time for one to appear on that subject.

Extremely rare event regarding a bike and a pedestrian? Scream it at the top of your lungs with rage. Much more frequent events with trucks and cars vs. pedestrians? Not a peep.

What will you do, when they start ganging up on automobile drivers?!? Just look at those menacing rubber wheels!!

I mean, what war did America lose, that resulted in people having to look if there is a bike in the bike lane when crossing it?!?!

And, Central Park of all places - dear GOD! What, do they expect pedestrians to move out of the way for the following as well?!
- horse carriages (those horses have IRON shoes you know, they can crush me,..)
- skate boarders (BOARDS,... you know, sort of reminds me of, like WATER BOARDING,.. I thought Bush was no longer President!?)
- roller bladers (BLADES for God's sake!!)
- baby carriages being pushed by their parents (PUSHED,.. forcing the idea of having to procreate on me,.. AND trying to run me over with a plastic stroller going at a brisk 1mph.)
- joggers (they are the shame of pedestrians,.. I can no longer defend them,.. THEY ARE GOING TOO FAST!!)

Oh,.. and this will probably last for like 2 weeks;
Cops were out in full force in Central Park on Friday handing out safety pamphlets and cracking down on speeding cyclists. "We’re just explaining to cyclists they need to stop at red lights," one cop told the News.

http://gothamist.com/2014/09/20/central_park_cyclist.php

Also, I am requesting that someone from these forums officially recruit Andrea Peyser into their cult/militia/compound - I don't want her in my city anymore,.. please take her,.. she sounds like someone you would love to be around with;
"They’re terrorists on wheels. Assassins in Spandex. The bicycle menaces must be stopped. It’s already too late."
http://nypost.com/2014/09/19/put-a-hard-brake-on-heartless-speed-demons/

She sounds like a sensationalist and alarmist,.. she would make a perfect bride for one of you lucky fellers.

BTW - what is 'speeding' on a bike? My city's laws don't spell out a specific speed (unless I missed it,..); http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/bicyclists/biketips.shtml

I would imagine going 30mph on a bike is speeding,.. even in a bike lane. Frankly, if you want to hit 30mph, go to a fucking velodrome,.. other wise, keep it under 30mph.

At 11mph, I've fractured ribs (fell off and hit the ground during rain).

So, I think the ideal speed limit would be 20mph, to keep everyone safe?

I would also imagine (edit) some of you would like bikes to be built with explosives, so if they DO hit whatever speed limit you want, they explode.

But, in all seriousness,.. what is speeding on a bike?

Ciclists don't care, they don't feel the need to follow laws. No doubt they will come in and try to claim that it's safer to blaze along at >30mph through central park.

Many witnesses say he didn't slow and right before he hit her he was in the wrong lane and swerved another group then plowed into her. I hope they nail his ass.
