SAN ANTONIO -- A 33-year-old woman decapitated her newborn son and then tried to kill herself with a kitchen knife, police said Sunday.

According to a police report, when officers arrived at a home at 351 Wayside Drive at 4:41 a.m. Sunday, they found the mother, Otty Sanchez, sitting on a couch screaming, "I killed my baby! I want to die!"

Officers then found Sanchez's newborn son, Scott Wesley Buchholtz Sanchez, lying on a bed in a back bedroom.

"The baby had been decapitated," said police spokesman Officer Joe Rios.

Sanchez told officers that the devil made her kill her child, the report stated.

"That leads us to believe she was experiencing some type of mental crisis when this incident happened," Rios said.

A kitchen knife and a sword were found near the baby's body, the report stated.

Eliane Colchin, a neighbor who gave Sanchez a crib for her baby a few months ago, was devastated by the news.

"When I heard that, I couldn't stand it. I just cried, you know," Colchin said.

Sanchez, who had self-inflicted stab wounds, was taken to University Hospital, where she will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

She was charged by proxy with capital murder.

Well no. I just find stories like almost impossible to believe. Especially since we now have a baby. I just don't see what could drive a parent to do such a thing to a newborn.

Mental illness, Crazy, bat shit insane = all the same. Once the person has committed murder it shouldn't matter. The person has demonstrated that they are unable to control themselves and a a detriment to society. There is no curing these people, only putting them on drugs to help regulate it, but then you are at the mercy of that person taking/getting their drugs in a timely manner. They can no longer be trusted with a child or another person for that matter and will only cause a drain on society further by spending a lifetime in jail.

well see, we really want to charge the devil, but he's been illusive, and since she was the actual one who did it, we'll just use proxy law and get her instead, see.

We need to end people that do this kind of stuff, makes no sense to rehabiliate or let them sit on our dollar in a jail/institution.

eh, these kinds of cases, it's kind of obvious the woman is completely fucked up in the head. Prison would be a more dangerous environment for those types of folk. Throw her in a psycho ward, for what will end up being life.

These are the kinds of situations that make me say - see what a waste life sentences are? They just become a drain on federal/state funding, when we could just get rid of them and be done with it. No illusion as to her NOT being the perp, considering she completely admitted to it. But noooooo, society is all a bunch of softies who cannot dare agree to capital punishment.
And this whole capital punishment thing being more costly than a life sentence in prison? It's because the law lets it get that way - it's all legality, paperwork and other bullshit.
