I'll go with overreaction. I don't think she have been fired.

Also, too many vindictive people persecuting her.

I would expect people in Boston to be very sensitive about this. That I can understand. But she's in Michigan.

Stalking and harassing her is way out-of-line.

Fern

She probably had some minimum wage low skill job with plenty of people willing to work it. So they can here and replace with someone with no public baggage.

Kind of shocking in the land of the free. Its halloween after all.

This isnt the land of freedom from consequence. She is not entitled to keeping her job because she truly thought it was a cool costume.

I'm going to defend this woman because I think it's the only correct and civilized response to this situation. The fact that she wore this costume and tweeted it to her friends may have been silly on her part. However, it was wrong of her to lose her job over it. She has freedom of expression in her private sphere. Also the place she worked for didn't seem to have an issue with it at the time. Finally, the people who caught wind of this picture and got all hot and bothered over it waged a massive cyber bullying campaign against her. She got punished by lynch mob rule.

To put it into perspective, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any member on this forum who hasn't posted something stupid or offensive at one time or another. How would you feel is someone took an "offensive" post you made in P&N and used it to wage a campaign to take away your job? Probably pretty bad, victimized even?

At some point, we decided as a society that mob rule it the correct rule. Which history has shown is rarely the case. Just proves you just need a couple hundred people to be sufficiently "outraged" to take away someone's living and destroy their lives. Each one of these people who attacked this woman should be charged with stalking.

I'll take the counterpoint. . . just because I can and I like to argue.

She should have lost her job because her actions reflected poorly on her judgment, and thus the judgment of the company that hired her. 99% of business is reputation. The other 1% is common sense.

You are correct in that she has freedom of expression in her own private sphere. But the fact that she is "free" to express herself does not mean that she is free of judgment, or of the ridicule and backlash that comes with it. What she did was not "silly." It was stupid, WAYYYYY too soon and, though she likely did not think of it at the time, amounted to poking fun at the hundreds/thousands of people who were injured/affected by the Boston bombing. Tragedy of any sort is not something to be made fun of. She might as well have starved herself for six months, thrown on rags, branded herself with a fake numbered tatoo, and gone out trick or treating as a Jewish prisoner during the holocaust.

and her employer has freedom to fire her. if you've ever been across the table at a sales meeting trying to land a big client, you'd know how bad crap like this is.

She deserved what she got. And not because of what she wore was insensitive but because she was actually fucking stupid enough to wear that shit to work.

it's a PR nightmare...the backlash against the employer would have been monumental if they didn't terminate her.

I don't mind seeing her fired. It serves as an example to kids that there are consequences to being an idiot.

Agreed. Sometimes you have to learn the price of stupidity.

She does have some nice tits though, but that arm tat is hideous. D:

I'm going to defend this woman because she has giant natural tits, and I'm a guy.

Just enter her name + nude or such on google and you will be rewarded.
No need to add nude to her name now, first result of Google are her 23 pictures, mostly of her boobs.

She got what she deserved, separate your "freedom of expression" and leave it outside the premises of the company you work for.

If her employer didn't think her attire was appropriate, that's their decision to make.

But if they made that decision because of the reactions of people who aren't content to voice their displeasure APPROPRIATELY and then get on with their own lives, that's not right.

This scorched-earth policy against people we disagree with is completely unfair.

Business decisions are often not right but they are made because it makes business sense. Management has to operate with revenues and bottom lines in mind, not what's fair and whose feelings are getting hurt.

Hence my post... smart management lets her know how fucking stupid the costume is, the repercussions of wearing it, and send her ass home to change, hopefully before she posts anything.

Then it's up to INDIVIDUALS to react carefully and reasonably, and not involve businesses in this kind of nonsense.

How can you separate your business from your personal life when you post pictures when you are at work? You automatically implicate your employer. And why wouldn't the employer have just as much of a right to react as individuals?

Management does not give a shit until it goes viral. It was probably a non-issue before that. It probably when like this:

Secretary: Mr. Boss, soandso came in with a custom of a bostom bombing vicitm.
Boss: that was in pour taste.

3 hours later:

Secretary: Mr. Boss, look at what they are twitting about soandso.
Boss: release the hounds.
