I thought that content would make her dead. :shocked:

Yeah, I learned in high school that .4 and above was pretty much death, for the average person.

Yea average non-alcoholic....those alcoholics can handle a crazy amount of alcohol at times...

Er, no, that's half of 1%. Beer is commonly 5%, wine 12%, hard liquor 40%. It's a lot for blood, but not much compared to actual alcohol.

If it was half of 1%, wouldn't it be .0047?

100% = 1.0
50% = .5
10% = .1

Therefore, wouldn't the BAC of .47 be equal to 47%? Thus meaning, 47% of her blood was alcohol, thus meaning more alcohol than a shot of 80proof?

Can you see a pattern?

16%
8%
4%
2%
1%
0.5%

Which one is half of 1%?

You're mixing percentages with decimals.

1.0 = 100%
.5 = 50%.

Edit: I'm wrong

FAIL

BAC of 0.47 is 0.47%. Make sense now?

Or about 0.94 PROOF. About 1/80th of a spirit.

I understand what you're saying, yes.

It just doesn't make much sense. Why don't they do BAC in percentages?

Quoted for a laugh... you are not really that stupid, right?

I mean, you know how to use a computer so you are definitely not that stupid.

Nope, you are the one mixing them up. This woman had a 0.47% BAC. 0.47% is almost half of 1%. From the properly written news article:

"Deana F. Jarrett, of Woodinville, registered a 0.47 percent blood-alcohol reading after striking two cars April 11, said Trooper Jeff Merrill, public-information officer for the State Patrol. The legal limit in Washington is 0.08 percent.

A blood-alcohol level above 0.40 percent is potentially lethal..."

When my mother was a judge, she once had a DUI defendant appear before her who had a .48 - it turned out she had been injecting vodka!

I thought that BAC was simply a decimal, ie: .5 = 50%. I didn't know it was a percentage, ie: .5 is really .5%.

So you honestly thought having a BAC of .10 means 10% of your blood is alcohol?

Really?

Serious? You can't be serious.

In the past month at work I have had 6 patients over .40% BAC. .44 is nothing and most of the "Pros" can hold a pretty good conversation and walk okay. .625 is my highest of this year though, still breathing but unconscious.
