Chances are that if the woman suddenly decides to be humble, that the terms will be reduced, as that is what oftentimes happens in situations like this (and also that is what happened in the 6 month ago instance of a woman smarting off to the judge).

The problem ultimately is that people need to learn to control their emotions, and I'd bet anything that this lady's emotions going out of control are what led her to assault the grandfather in the first place.

The bolded is almost certainly true.

Nobody has perfect control over their emotions and what limited control we do have is learned. All people need to be taught how to, and encouraged to form good habits, the learned virtues, including judges as well as forum posters.

Look around and tell me you don't see at least half the forum expressing either joy or indifference at the suffering of others. We shouldn't be cheering when "some thug" receives "some just end" or the like. It's still an unfortunate situation all round.

In this case some contempt sentence was certainly in order, but the judge behaved inappropriately by ignoring her incontinence. I'm convinced the people arguing otherwise are either fundamentally mean spirited or else not much smarter than this woman is.

Justice should be impartial. It's not for entertainment. Some kind of feeling of satisfaction may be quite natural in certain cases, but there's no need to jump up and down gleefully. Maybe sometimes people do deserve to "be put down" as some people like to put it, but why the parade?

OK then let me ask you this: Should people be forced to behave themselves in court?

Yes, of course.

The real question is: What will a 300-day contempt sentence accomplish that a 30-day sentence would not have?

Well, since after receiving the 30-day sentence, she continued acting out, I think that the longer sentence *might* get her to realize that she doesn't have carte blanche to say whatever she wants AFTER being held in contempt.

This is one of those cases where stupidity was basically illegal, and someone paid the price.

yawn.

at first I found the title shocking, but after reading the article and watching the video, this woman is basically being told she is charged with beating her grandparents in their own home, and she starts running her mouth.

She is violent and obviously has no remorse, feels no culpability for what she did and expects to just go home later like nothing happened. What do you think that says about her and what's going to happen in the future?

The main point of a contempt sentence is a period of time in the slammer that forces the offender to think about what they've done (or haven't done, in cases where the judge is trying to force compliance with a court order) and (hopefully) change their behavior. But this judge seems to think that contempt sentences are punishment. Unfortunately, that's illegal under the due process clause of the Constitution.

No, the proper procedure is to give the woman 30 days, then bring her back and see if her attitude's changed. If not, give her another 30 days. At some point, a trial on the original charges will occur, with or without her cooperation, a verdict will be decided, and a sentence imposed if she's found guilty. At that point, any remaining contempt sentence becomes irrelevant.

He told the bitch to zip it.

Bitch keeps mouthing off.

Judge shuts the bitch up with an almost year sentence.

I don't see the problem with this. Yeah the judge when on a little power trip, but people like this need to know when to shut the fuck up.

I've had experience with people that think they can say and do anything they want without any consequences (nieces) until they meet someone that can actually enforce real consequences on them.

Justice served.

Some of the more "liberal" views within this thread are truly amazing. If certain posters within this thread ran the show civil society (as we have known it) would collapse.

Those very same people would find that to be a good thing.

the odds of her actually serving the 300 days is nil. most likely after a few he will talk to her and IF she apologizes she will be free.

Given what we know of this woman she will probably end up with another 300 days added on

This is true. A similar case with a guy in the Judge's court who racked up 120 days, had his sentence greatly reduced after he apologized formally.

I am sure only 30 of the 300 days will stick, if she apologizes and does not act out again towards him. But what are the odds?

In the future PLEASE refrain from posting while taking your meds and being drunk.

Also, aren't ou from Central Europe? What weight does your opinion have on society in the US? You are aware that this happened in the United States?

What a moron ...

The Judge does not have 'sole power'. A judge works within the law, and it binds their actions. Such laws are the product of democratically elected officials.

If you take exception with a law it is not undeard of to seek its repeal, there are many methods of doing so.

Good luck, I imagine it will be a tough sale.

Of course he is working within the law but he has the sole discretion of handing out such lengthy sentences and since it is HIS court room he has the sole discretion of allowing the disruptions to continue. He could have very easily cut her off well before it got to the absurd and told her "see you in 30 days".

Regardless of what argument you wish to attempt, a year in jail because some ignorant person hurt the judges feelings is absurd and something that tax payers shouldn't be forced to pay for.

Do not let the no solicitation signs, disinterested householders, and inevitable hysterical laughter daunt you. You are a visionary.

No, I am a realist with common sense.

She wouldn't have any days if she was able to control herself.

Is asking people to control themselves really considered power tripping? She kept egging the judge on, so he kept piling on the sentence. Anybody with half a brain would have realized after the first contempt of court that "hey I need to keep my mouth shut now or it will get worse".

Obviously the judge wasn't dealing with a person with half a brain. Is it really to much to ask that we have Judges with more than half a brain who don't waste enormous amounts of tax payer dollars to incarcerate someone because said person hurt the judges feelings? As I stated earlier, the judge should have shut her down at the point when it was obvious she wasn't going to use the 1/4 of her brain she has left.

Now if the dumb bitch went back in 30 days and did the same thing, I wouldn't have an issue with him giving her another 30 days and if she did that every time and ended up spending a year in jail, that would be understandable.

Wow, a lot of whiners (on the first page at least) in here.

The woman was disrespectful in court, deserved what she got and will hopefully learn from it. I doubt it though as that woman seems as smart as a sack of bricks.

In an ideal society (one tucked deep inside my head ) People like her wouldn't be able to breed since they obviously have no benefit to society.
