I heard a TED radio talk a couple weeks ago about a guy selling hookworms as an ant-allergy medication. Turns out they help allergies by focusing the body's immune system on a real invader, rather than a fake one. I wonder how it works on other autoimmune diseases.

I've listened to a Freakonomics episode where tapeworms were one suggestions for America's weight epidemic. With a little biological tweaking and professional monitoring, I don't think the possibility of using them should be ruled out.

Getting rid of tapeworms is supposedly really easy. If diagnosed with one, your doctor will prescribe you a single pill (you only need to take one), and it kills the worm almost immediately. Then it comes out of your body via your poop.

Where do you find tapeworms to swallow anyhow? Order them in a mag? Online? Find in the back yard under a rock?

Never occurred to me where to look for them. I guess a normal human reaction is to avoid them, not hunt for them.

Edit : Wikipedia says from undercooked food that has the eggs present or small larva. I guess I better stop eating sushi.

Yeah but there can be eggs that don't get killed. And you could have spread those to other people. And they can get into other places in your body. Even your brain.

Parasites are horrible. It's idiotic to allow them in on purpose. Even if for some reason there seems to be some bizzare benefit. If you get weaker or sick from anything else they will take over your body. Hookworms can drain enough blood to make you really fatigued and anemic. They can block your intestines also. Make holes in your stomach. Endless reasons these things should be eradicated.
