When was the last time anyone you know was drafted...recently?
The draft is an option for in case we ever come to a time when we need defense and can't find enough voluntary enlistees, as it should be. There is currently no active draft, only required selective service registration. You can't abolish the draft, unless you want to risk speaking another language, at some point in the future, when we are conquered by a foreign country, because we didn't draft the soldiers we needed.
WTF? There is no fucking way my daughter is signing up for this shit. Not a chance. I will drive her Canada myself before she is ever exposed to the meat grinder of war.
I believe that fits the definition of sexism. To not support gender equality.
Frankly, if there's a draft, Women should be fit to die along side us.
the woman playing the new Wonder Woman was drafted into the Israeli army.
How so? Having twice as many peasants to draft seems like it would encourage even more imperialism.A lot of people seem to be confusing the issue of whether women (volunteers or draftees) should be assigned frontline military service with that of the draft. I say if anyone is subject to the draft, everyone should be. It will help keep down on the chickenhawks.

Interesting how many people believe that we should be forced to sacrifice our children to the State. "For the greater good," of course.. which is the same argument that communists make.
It's always the conservatives that claim they are for small government, yet support the death penalty and the draft.
Let's abolish men's and women's sports and force all teams to be coed.
I find it to be appallingly pathetic that our species still seems to be so infantile and undeveloped that this is deemed a suitable means for nations to resolve conflicts.Interesting how many people believe that we should be forced to sacrifice our children to the State. Unfortunately, I don't know how to resolve it. At some level, we're still primates that are the product of surviving an uncaring and harsh environment. Those instincts flavor our actions. Some of us don't care to acknowledge that, or some will try to preserve those behaviors out of some sense of tradition or historical preservation, and so will glorify war as something for "manly men" to look forward to, an honorable means to an end.
Like a bunch of infants trying to collectively figure out how to stop soiling their diapers, entirely unaware that they lack the muscle control to do so effectively. They can't solve the underlying problem because they can't envision its cause.
That's where we are. Our history is punctuated by periods of great violence, and many speak of the horrors and terrible human costs of war, yet we are constantly unable to fully refrain from it.
For the greater good? Some social systems can be well worth preserving. How much are we willing to sacrifice for that preservation? That is always the difficult question.

Hmm, because sports and war are similar things?
