It's only an issue when the hair starts to smell bad after a few days. But you learn to keep your mouth shut if you want to get any...lol

It's funny because the oil you secrete is what your body uses to protect your hair. The same goes with your skin.

I only shower every other day. However, I have an office job so I don't sweat, I don't have much hair, and I have eczema so daily showering causes outbreaks.

Otherwise, I smell fine

I don't wash (with shampoo) my hair daily. I only do it after 3 or 4 days.

It's not because it takes time, I have short hair, it's because washing hair daily it's not good for hair wealth.
It's stupid to wash hair daily with shampoo. Expect to start loosing, or have a weak hair, if you do this daily.

Why would anyone want to wash their hair every day? You trying to smell like a guido douchenozzle?

Meh I dont shower every day and I know I dont stink. (confirmed by others) If I had a sedentary day and didnt sweat, I wont shower. I'll go maybe 2-3 days. I'll still brush my teeth, wash my face and use baby wipes after #2. I still change my socks, undershirt and underwear everyday. I'll apply some extra deodorant and cologne in the morning and I'm good. Obviously if I had a workout or I came back from hiking or got dirty doing yard work, then straight into the shower I go.

As far as hair, I don't wash mine everyday. I find my hair is easier to style and stays put when it has about a day's worth of my own scalp oil in it. Freshly washed hair gets frizzy on me and curls in the humidity. I usually wash my hair as well every 3 days, any longer and it starts getting way too greasy. Obviously, if I workout or do anything dirty, then the hair gets washed too.

I can understand with longer hair, women would not want to wash it every day.

But, for fucks sake,.. with longer hair,.. more crap could get trapped and stuck in there. And, there is sweat.

I would kick her out of bed, if her hair smelled like sweat and dirt from the earlier part of the day.

So, yes, not washing daily is pretty disgusting.

I shower daily and wash my hair daily. Mainly because I work out daily and sweat. My hair and body get nasty so I wash it off. I would still wash hair daily because my head is very oily compared to others.

If my head wasn't so oily I wouldn't wash my hair every day. But when I wasn't working out every day I wouldn't have to shower every day either. As George Carlin says, all you need to really clean daily is armpits, crotch, asshole, and teeth. Hopefully not all with the same brush.

washing your hair on a daily basis can really dry it out... back when I had long hair, I'd only wash it every 2-3 days or so.

can't say I know any girls who specifically don't shower on a daily basis regularly.

Even my short hair - I can't wash it daily. I just rinse it every other day unless I feel it really needs it any given day. If I do, I start getting a dry flaky scalp real quickly, and my hair does seem excessively dry

If you adjust from the typical daily everything pattern, you'll actually notice healthier skin, hair, and scalp. We remove too many natural oils too readily, and what happens is the body over-produces more, which then makes it seem necessary to remove it all the next day. You might feel gross for a day, but you might be able to adjust just fine.

I actually didn't shower every day when I wasn't going to the gym or running regularly. :\

Unless I've been extremely nasty, I refuse to actively wash my face. I learned that trick after experimenting for many many years, clearing up acne being the goal. My face has been much, much clearer with only splashing water on it sometimes a few times throughout the day, and in the shower just having the water hit my face for a little while. Anything else dries my face out too fast too soon, and my face compensates with way too much oil and I tend to break out then. Every so often I'll just use the soap (2-in-1 dove men's soap). I also found the bar, versus the body wash, is far more effective at helping with my dry skin. In the winter I'd basically need lotion after a shower when using body wash.

Generally, people who don't follow the exact same daily regimen, do usually act accordingly based on activity. As in, if she sweat heavily, I imagine she'll be washing her hair.

And just going through the washing motions, without soap, will actually rid hair of most leftovers of sweat and whatnot from the day. Hair doesn't need to smell like shampoo all day, you know. We can smell like decent humans without that fresh washed scent all day.

You'd kick her out of bed if she showered in the morning and had, OMG, all that day's worth of nasty sweat and other dirt? Best shower again bitch!

Oily hair can be a symptom of washing hair every day.

Gasp! A paradox, that one!

Just so you know: you could be a high oil producer, or your body could be responding to losing all that oil by over-producing more oil to replace, every day. If you started skipping days, the first week you might feel like it's nasty, but I bet by the second week, it'd start feeling more normal, you might even start preferring it.

Also, a tip for anyone who tries it: throughout the day, you may want to hit the sink and splash water over your hair (and face if trying to skip soap) and then comb or do whatever you want with it after drying. That'll help strip a small amount of the excess oil that will still build up when first switching from a daily regimen - you'll notice, in time, you'll feel less need to go through that splashing process, you'll simply feel less oily in time. You're not adjusting to the oil, so don't worry about smells or feeling - the oil production is slowing down as the body adapts.

ha, did not see this was a necro thread. I wonder if I already participated? Time to go look! lol

Heck no on the skipping. Tried it. Doesn't work. Used to do long camping trips and was told the same thing in the past by others the same thing you said. Doesn't work at all. My head is OILY. Even if I tried to just go every other day and do it for 6 months. It was ALWAYS nasty the second day. So no.

What about the climate one lives in?

In my HIGH HUMIDITY climate with lots of sun and dust oils and clogged pores build up pretty fast. One tends to smell within a day of work outdoors or no in door AC units.

In this climate, every individual especially women need to keep up with hygiene.

You know, with reasonable hygiene, I think some people's natural body odors can be preferable to the smell of most bath soaps, deodorants, lotions or perfumes, etc. Daily showers? Well, I'd say it depends a lot of what activities are engaged in on most days.

If you shower every day, you will dry your skin out more, and to compensate your skin will produce more oils. If you suddenly go from showering every day, to every other day, you may feel gross.

People who shower less often may simply not have their skin in oil overdrive mode, so they may not have the gross problem. YMMV of course.

The biggest point is: water is always important. Scrubbing with water only is far more effective than most people realize. I still don't subscribe to the idea that it is all that is necessary, for eternity. Use suds every other day or so, but simply scrubbing with water (submerged or in a shower) is enough to strip off excess oils and the trapped dirts in said oils, but not strip away all of the oil. Those natural oils are protective too, not just an annoyance that builds up over time. You should WANT to preserve those oils for a more healthy-looking (and truly more healthy) appearance.

The tropical and sub-tropical climates, and in general high heat and high humidity days, will tend to mean more care for cleanliness. It still doesn't really require soap every day. A basic effort to clean up every day - but not necessarily with soap, or at least a lot of soap.

Only true if you are irritating your skin when you are cleaning it. Even then, only some people will produce more oil when their skin is irritated, but not everyone. Oil production for the most part is controlled by genes, hormone levels, stress levels, and pore sizes.

Using a mild cleanser (soap) and luke warm water to wash your body down isn't going to irritate the skin of most people enough to cause the level of irritation that will send their oil production into overdrive. Just depends on the person. Some areas of my body for example are very oily and some are very dry. My hands are typically very dry. I never even sweat from my hands. Not once. So to me it is strange to hear of people having clammy hands and a little disgusting to me as well.
