So I recently discovered that a decent number of women don't shower/don't wash their hair on a daily basis. I'm not just talking about ugly ones, normal, young, attractive women. I bet you have a boner after that last sentence. Personally I feel disgusting and my productivity drops considerably if I don't shower daily. Can anyone explain why women do this? Does it happen around where you are as well?

I don't know of anyone who doesn't shower daily, but some women I know do not wash their hair daily, don't really know why though

Some women's hair takes a long time to "do"... my gf showers twice daily, but she only washes her hair once as it takes her an hour to straighten it / put shit in it every morning.

Women don't wash their hair daily because it will dry out and look terrible.

washing your hair on a daily basis can really dry it out... back when I had long hair, I'd only wash it every 2-3 days or so.

can't say I know any girls who specifically don't shower on a daily basis regularly.

I suppose if you used hair products it's different, but if I go one day without washing my hair it gets really greasy and smells bad.

Interesting about the dry hair thing. As a male I find the exact opposite to be true. Does the length thing make a big difference?

Regarding not washing hair everyday, my co-worker explains it like this: Long hair is a PITA to manage to being with, more so if you have to wash, dry and style it everyday. Which is also more harmful to the hair itself. Regular washing causes dyes to fade-out more quickly, and since hair dyed is neither a cheap nor quick process, they'd rather need to have it done as few times as possible.

i always assumed it was because it takes longer for the body oils from the scalp to make their way through the length of the hair.
with short hair the oil takes far less time to reach an unacceptable "saturation level"

after having both long and short hair i can tell you i only wash long hair every 2 to 3 days, but short hair every day.

My girlfriend showers every other day. If she showers every day, her skin really drys out (it's bad enough as is...lotion and different soaps don't make a difference, really). Thankfully she's not the type that's gross without showering daily...

Some people are just different than others. Something doesn't usually work for everyone.

I used to date a girl who didn't shower every day, and not because once in a while she slept in and had to or anything... she just didn't and said that not only was it not a big deal (she looked at me weird when I said I thought it was unusual) but she actually sort of liked "natural body smell" (aka BO).

That didn't last long.

Hair's a totally different story though. When I had long hair I didn't wash it every day either.

When it came to crunch time, I didn't take a shower everyday too. You'll find that you're not as disgusting if you skip a day or so.

Yes it does happen around me and no, they don't smell or anything.

You can acclimate your body to less regular cleansing, and it sort of levels out. I've had to do this before for various jobs or backpacking trips. If you know you're going to go a long time with no shower, it's effective to ease yourself and your body into this. That said, I generally shower daily and wash hair every other day. I have fairly dry hair (it's long as well), and it's happier this way. Dry hair gets damaged and ratty looking easier. Short hair gets oilier because it's short, and closer to the scalp (where the oils originate). I do wash my hair daily if I'm in an intense workout phase as well, because it just feels gross otherwise, but I pay the price for it.

Okay first off, you don't need to shower every day to be in top form. It differs a lot for different people, but it's generally true. Secondly, with long hair it's completely different. You want the oils to stay there somewhat, otherwise the hair will get dry and damaged. Not only that, but when you DO take a shower with long hair, you have to condition liberally. You may never find out on your own, but when people with long hair take showers (if they're doing it right), they'll work in the shampoo at the TOP of their hair and not down the length of it. If they worked the lather into ALL of their hair, the hair further from their head would get VERY dry and take days for the natural oils to get back there where it's supposed to be.

You're not a hypochondriac are you?

I'll tell you something else my well-scrubbed friends. You don't always need a shower every day. Did you know that? It's overkill! Unless you work out, or work outdoors, or for some reason come in intimate contact with huge amounts of filth and garbage every day, you don't always need a shower.
All you really need is to wash the four key areas: armpits, asshole, crotch, and teeth! Got that? The hooker's bath. Armpits, asshole, crotch, and teeth. In fact, you can save yourself a whole lot of time if you simply use the same brush on all four areas!
-George Carlin

Bathing every day is largely unnecessary as most people don't get dirty enough over the course of a day to justify completely washing their body on a daily basis. It wastes water, it fills the waste water with chemicals in the shampoo and soap which need to be treated at a plant before they can be deemed safe to reenter the water cycle, and it aids in the proliferation of resistant bacteria due to the abundance of anti-bacterial soaps. In short, it's a terrible fucking idea for most people to bathe every day. Maybe these women just realize that.

Or maybe they're just filthy hippies.
