Wow, I don't know how she can complain about being "dehumanized" by the Trump administration when she tortured a man to death over the course of weeks.

https://spectator.org/the-women-movements-embrace-of-psychopath-donna-hylton/

Vigliarole believed the three girls were prostitutes who were going to have sex with him. Instead, they picked him up on March 8 in Elmhurst, Queens, at Maria’s home, and drugged him to make him drowsy. Then they drove him to Selma’s apartment in Harlem. The apartment had already been prepared for an extended torture session: The closet door had been cut, a pot put in it for use as a toilet, the windows boarded.

For the next 15 to 20 days (police aren’t sure just when Vigliarole died), the man was starved, burned, beaten, and tortured. (Even 10 years later, Spurling could recall Rita’s chilling response when they questioned her about shoving a three-foot metal bar up Vigliarole’s rear: “He was a homo anyway.” How did she know? “When I stuck the bar up his rectum he wiggled.”)

The three girls took turns watching the man. It was Donna who delivered a ransom note and tape to a friend of Vigliarole’s, who was able to get a partial license plate number of the car she was driving. He notified the police, who traced the plate to a rental car facility. On April 6 the suspects were arrested, and detectives spent 36 hours straight interviewing the seven men and women. “We had to keep going back and forth and catch them in lies,” said Spurling. “It was a never-ending circle of lies.”

Spurling himself interviewed Donna: “I couldn’t believe this girl who was so intelligent and nice-looking could be so unemotional about what she was telling me she and her friends had done. They’d squeezed the victim’s testicles with a pair of pliers, beat him, burned him. Actually, I thought the judge’s sentence was lenient. Once a jailbird, always a jailbird.”

And of course, Hollywood already wants to make a movie glorifying this murderer's life:

What the fvck, how is she out of prison? And how do otherwise well-intentioned movements like this end up in bed with the absolute worst people?

I will condemn her crimes but she is trying to make a positive difference since her release this should be encouraged not condemned.

So why is she one of the leaders/speakers at a women's rights march? She was complicit in the rape, torture, and murder of someone. There's nothing she could have done afterwards to make her a good choice for this; I don't care if she's found Jesus, advocates for prison reform, is really sorry and did her time. Doesn't matter.

This was an important event for women's rights, it shouldn't have been tainted by allowing a POS like this around. Women's rights is critical and I'd argue under threat, this only undermines it.

Her life prior to the crime was repeated sexual abuse and rape. These are women's issues and all too common. She has overcome her past and is trying to help others. That doesn't make her a hero, but it does show that people can change for the better and that there is hope for those going through abuse.

You don't believe in the concept of personal redemption/atonement?

When you look at the disgusting behavior of some of the so called liberals, after the election, how can you be surprised at this?

"My lifelong journey is one of many emotional and physical prisons; I went from abused child to repeated rape victim to desperate teen mother to solitary confinement where the boundary of my world was a 6’x10” cinder block room. It’s a story of tremendous pain and suffering, but it’s also a love story about freedom, hope, survival, sisterhood, redemption, and forgiveness. It’s about learning to love myself and fight for myself and for others."

ultimately, she served her time and turned her life around, good for her. i thought this nation was proud of giving second chances?

No doubt people can change, but having someone like this represent something so important is a travesty. There's plenty of men (and women sadly) out there that saw this protest as just uppity sjw's bitching and complaining when they already have more rights than men (their thoughts not mine) and just want free shit with no responsibilities. This just hands them ammo unfortunately, and certainly detracts and distracts from the issues at hand.

Like I said previously I don't care how sorry she is, there's millions of women who've gone through abuse and having someone like this represent them has got to be a slap in the face. What a shame.

This thread, the article it links to and their intent is a perfect example of why the documentary "13TH" is so very, very valid.

She was serially sexually abused and raped as a child. As such, she committed a very predictable crime as a teen. She served her time, in fact, more time than a rich white girl would have got. And now she is trying to do something positive with her life.

Good for her.

BTW, having her represent is actually quite perfect. It was rape culture that created the criminal she became as a teen.

She was one of many who spoke. Whether you like her or not, it seems to be just a way to criticize the event rather than actually discuss what the event was about.

It's a distraction from the event I agree, which is why she's a terrible pick to speak at it.

Cool, would you feel the same way if John William King (one of three men involved in the lynching of James Byrd Jr from a truck to his death) suddenly became an advocate for civil rights? He was allegedly raped by blacks in prison (over a burglary offense) as well until he agreed to join the Aryan Brotherhood, and probably had a bad childhood before that.

EDIT: Actually, bad analogy, a better one would be if John William King became an advocate for "white rights", and we poo-pooed anyone bringing up his past and the possibility that he was any kind of racist.

Then at least you're consistent. Personally, I don't think either one of them deserves a second chance after crimes so terrible.

People are capable of change, both towards the positive or the negative. We should embrace those who choose to become better, so that others can also be encouraged to become better.
