I was aware of many of these, but not all.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2006/12/islams_apartheid.html

* If a Muslim woman is murdered, her beneficiary is entitled to one-half dyyeh-blood money, or compensation-as that of a murdered Muslim male.

* A woman's testimony in the court of law is worth one-half that of a man.

* A woman must provide four witnesses to substantiate her claim of being raped.

* A man can divorce his wife by simply saying to her, "I divorce you," three times.

* A divorced woman is entitled to a miserly compensation and automatically forfeits her rights to her children.

* Women are barred from the lucrative and powerful cast of clergy.

* Husbands are entitled to punish their wives corporally.

* Men are allowed to have four wives at any one time and as many concubines as they desire and can afford.

* Saudi Arabia, the custodian of "true Islam" imposes a raft of restrictions on women such as: women are not allowed to drive; they are not permitted to leave the country without accompaniment or explicit permission of their male kin; they are barred from most government jobs and much much more.

* Among other Muslims, such as the Taliban and the Pashtoon of Afghanistan-Pakistan region, women are barred from education and not even allowed to leave the house unless accompanied by a male kin.

* Since education, particularly professional education is often denied to women in many Islamic societies. There is scarcity of women physicians and male doctors are often forbidden to treat women patients.

But the religion of peace is a loving religion

No wonder there are so many suicide bombers.

With a religion like that the only peace is in death.

& that list is BS.

It focuses mainly on one country, Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has a population of around 20 million nationals. Muslim population is 1.2-1.4 billion

He can conjur up Biggie Smalls with the same method.

The things in the list, in my opinion, are bad. Yet, it's interesting to see how quick the right wingers are to judge another culture rather than to do anything about the vast problems in our own.

For example, *we're* a nation who has made a secret agreement (not so secret anymore) to prop up the Saudi government and keep them in power and prevent any democracy from occuring, because we don't like who would get elected, and we traded the rights of the Saudi people for our access being guarenteed to their oil. That's moral?

Look at our own issues from among the highest levels of drug addiction, violent crime and incarceration in the world, to our national unsustainable rates of consumption of energy, and pollution, to our guilt of aggressive war from Iraq (oops no WMD, .5M Iraqis killed) to Viet Nam (oops made up attack in Gulf of Tonkin, 2M Vietnamese killed) and so on.

We have our own long list of things to work on, but the right doesn't want to hear about that - in fact they have little cute catch phrases like 'blame America first' for the people who mention things we should deal with. I'm sure there are plenty of bithering idiot Saudi right-wingers who say the equivalent of 'blame Saudis first' to the above list, too.

The right doesn't care about the muslim people, about solving the issues anywhere, they're about hate. The only point to posting the list above is to use it to attack the muslims and make themselves feel like their own excrement smells wonderful, so that they can hate them as a group and not feel any worry about military attacks against them. It reminds me a bit during periods of racism when blacks would be caricatured as lazy and animal-like with heavy accenes eating huge pieces of watermelon, under the guise of 'humor' but really about allowing the white audiences not to feel guilt about the racism that existed, to turn them into objects of derision. It's why they'll ignore any argument about how it's wrong for us to sponsor oppressive regimes who serve our interests, but will leap onto any attacks they can make against the group they want to attack.

That's why the right is unacceptable for addressing the issues above - which do deserve our concern and efforts to push for improvement. What if the best thing we could to help on the issues above was to donate for a UN conferenc on women's issues? Squawk squawk say the republicans! Refusal, run away. It's not the issues they are concerned about.

Add in a little bit of the conference saying something in America should be improved too, and you would see them outright attacking the conference.

Sorry, the list would be ok if presented constructively, but it's simply a piece of propaganda to make people hate the muslims, and to pave the way for indeferrence to military attacks against them, and to distract people from our issues. So, its posting in that contxt deserves condemnation.

People who have a broader view are the ones who should deal with the issues and push for improvement with those hold the views above.

Hi,

That lsit may be true, but it's noting to do with Islam.

The subjuection of Women in this way is totally un-acceptable, but that is nothing to do with Islam.

Yet again the laws and culture in one state wher Islam happens to be the dominant religion, are being represented as the teachings of Islam itself.

The best way to counter Islamic extremeism is to demonstarte how un0Islamic it is - remove the justification for the extremeism...

A) Women have an education in almost every Muslim country.
The largest Muslim nation Indonesia with 250 million people (It is an asian country) had a woman President a few years ago

B) Men are allowed to marry more than one women if the women agree. If the women agree then how is that against women's rights? If the women do not agree, Islam does not allow it

C) If a man divorces his wife , he must according to Islam provide her with money, return the dawry (spl?) and make sure she is able to support herself. He cannot simply get up and leave.

Islam is a slave religion for those who wish to practice it. It doesn't take away anyone's basic rights. It just makes them devote their life to GOD. Pray 5x a day , fast for a month, etc.

The only right that women lose is the whole "dress modestly" BS.
What Muslim nations force women to "dress modestly?"
Iran and Saudi Arabia
/end list

The Taliban, Saudi Arabian, Pakistani Tribes ... they are all part of the same sect of people. Wahhabi BS. Of course Narmer is going to come in here and blame it on Egypt.

Actually its not interesting to how your type brushes over the abuses in other countries by finding any fault in America. Basically your of the mindset, if we have any guilt then the world is not ours to criticize.

Of course this mentality leaves millions to starve, torture, and whatnot, but hey, its okay in your book because you prefer America to be the bogeyman.

Hell the LEFT doesn't want to work on it either. Both sides are the same, get a clue. They want to talk about it, they might even spend some money on it, but they certainly ain't going to fix it.

If your so delusional that you think the UN can help there is little reason to respect anything you say. See there is this slight problem, these countries most likely to repress woman don't give a ****** what the UN says. The UN only affects countries where public opinion matters to those who lead those countries.

Your right wing hate is what wrecks the chance most liberals have at getting listened to by right wingers. They see you as the idiot example of the left and nod their heads and wave off all other liberals. Your just as bad as the whackos you try to denouce. Hell it seems as if you only go out of your way to place guilt on others because you have so much of it yourself.

The list btw is fact. What is wrong with it is that some countries do treat women better, only because moderate muslims still how sway. Making the list pretty won't change the facts it presents. That is, in hard line Muslim countries women and minorities are treated like dirt. Nothing you can point out wrong in America changes any of that, it only serves to point out that your so full of hate you gone to stupid land.

I'm probably the best at this thread due to my makeup. I'm not Muslim but I grew up in a Muslim family myself. My dad was Muslim my mom wasn?t, however my dad instilled a lot of his beliefs on us. The Muslim religion is very strict first off. They don't allow much wiggle room as due other religions. Going on to their beliefs regarding women. Well, I would have to say they don't have or hold a HIGH regard for women. I wasn?t born in the Middle East but in the U.S. I visited Karachi Pakistan while I was 12 yo. I noticed how women were treated generally. They are treated generally subservient to the men. The Men in Islamic culture hold's higher authority for making major financial/family decisions in the household. This system has been going on for thousands of years to the point were women who grow up and live there right now that are subject to the very same system believe there is nothing wrong with it. The very same things can be said true about the United States as well. Particularly in the U.S. we objectify our women here. Their bodies are sex objects posted in magazines (playboy) for the satisfaction of a young adolescent. I?m sure Muslims in particular will find that disgusting as well. However, as far as that list goes I think is a gross exaggeration of what actually happens.

Well we (Americans) were treating women much like the Muslims until nearly 90 years ago. One could argue even up through the 50s, women in the U.S. were more or less second-class citizens. The Middle East has a lot of catching up to do.

Is that supposed to make things alright?

How foreign aid funded sharia

WHEN people around the world sent millions of pounds to help the stricken Indonesian province of Aceh after the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004, few could have imagined that their money would end up subsidising the lashing of women in public.

But militant Islamists have since imposed sharia law in Aceh and have cornered Indonesian government funds to organise a moral vigilante force that harasses women and stages frequent displays of humiliation and state-sanctioned violence.

International aid workers and Indonesian women?s organisations are now expressing dismay that the flow of foreign cash for reconstruction has allowed the government to spend scarce money on a new bureaucracy and religious police to enforce puritan laws, such as the compulsory wearing of headscarves.

Some say there are more ?sharia police? than regular police on the local government payroll and that many of them are aggressive young men...

...Fatimah, a human rights worker, was arrested after a seminar at a hotel in Banda Aceh when sharia police burst in to find her without a proper headscarf while chatting in the corridor to a male colleague.

Accused of ?khalwat?, a vague term that covers proximity between unmarried men and women, she was dragged off to a police station, where she was detained, deprived of sleep and questioned for three days before being released without charge. ?It was a nightmare that I will not be able to forget for the rest of my life,? she said.

For international donors, who gave generously to end the nightmare of the tsunami, the next few months will pose hard choices. ?Nobody intended our aid to subsidise this,? said one United Nations official.

Radical Islam spreads and we turn a blind eye. I wonder, which country is next to fall under religious oppression?

I guess it depends on the flavor of Christianity. I knd of like the mainstream type, you know the kind where you are only a Christian on Sunday and on certain Holidays (or in this case, certain threads). I guess the being forgiven thing is the key though. You can sin your ass off but if you ask for forgiveness you are ok. Anyway I prefer to be around these kind of religious followers than the Fundies or the nut cases (like Muslims and Southern Baptists)

My only question is why is it any of our business how another religion runs things? Who's to say they arent happy? IMHO this is a worthless discussion.
