6 blacks in a row, put $100 down on black. Black. Sweet.

Put the winnings on red. Red!

Walked away with $200 more than I started with in 10 minutes

Heh, well not to rain on your parade, but my friend won $3600 by betting $100 on #28.
He had this dream about going into the casino and putting a 100 on 28 and winning, and then putting that 3600 onto 28 again, and winning again
It was a very vivid and compelling dream, but at the same time, he mostly brushed it off as just a dream.
So we were bored one weekend and ended up going to the casino at atlantic city
So we were playing poker, a few slot machines, lost a few hundred bucks. We were getting ready to leave, until he said, ok last $5 into this $5 wheel of fortune slot machine... and we won $200! He tried a few more spins on that machine, and on the 4th spin, he got the spin and won the highest amount on the spin board, which is $1500!!
So we ended up with about $1600.
So now with this money and feeling like it's his luckiest day, he goes and places 100 on 28 on the roulette, just like in the dream. and yes.. HE WON!
So that day, he won $3600 from the roulette, and $1600 from slots.
Lost another thousand that night, but it was a satisfying point to call it quits.

How much did you lose?

People always brag about winning money but more often they have lost at least that much or more. Casinos exist to part you from your money. If the odds weren't in their favor they wouldn't be there.

I didn't lose anything last night.

When I go to the casino (maybe two or three times a year), it's always with the same friend and always the same games. He puts like $10-$20 on black jack and then I'll put $10-$20 on the roulette table. We just go to kill maybe 30 minutes before we go out for the night.

Tonight I just felt like I wanted to up my bet. Put down $100 and take a chance.

Overall, I'm probably hovering around even all-time with my gambling since I turned 18 (I'm 25 now). Since I started playing roulette, I'm probably up about $300. It's the first few years where the one arm bandits took most of my money.

Only way to win table games straight up is hit and run. But if you play consistently the odds will catch up to you as most games have a house edge (if you play optimally) of around 5-10% (that means over the long term for every $1 you bet you expect in return $.95-.90). Some games/bets (especially the bonus bets, hard bets in craps) have way more house edge, and also if you make stupid decisions (like hit on 16 with dealer showing 6, always letting it ride in "Let it Ride", etc.) the house edge increases tremendously as well.

It is possible to tip the house edge in your favor if you are able to garner some advantage. Such as counting cards in Black Jack. Also in sports betting a good handicapper can tip the odds in their favor, but it is extremely difficult as most spreads/odds have a house edge built in.

meh, i'm down at the casino, and i don't really care (of course I'd rather be up). I can afford it, and I consider it a form of entertainment. I try to make it to Vegas once a year, and hit up the local casinos in CT or Atlantic City once every couple of months.

I don't tell most people how much I lose, because I don't really care for the judgmental comments as seen in this thread already. I know that the casino has an edge (duh), but I have fun while I'm gambling. I dont see any difference between this and the people who went $5k-$10k on photography equipment.

The problem isn't people like you (or me). We know what our limits are. For me, it's about $20.

There are people who will spend their entire paycheque the day they get it. That's a problem.

Really? You don't see a difference? Because I see a huge difference.

When you spend $5-$10k on photography equipment you end up with $5-$10k worth of photography equipment. With gambling you end up with nothing.

I know a gorgeous woman who has two children and her husband is a degenerate gambler who constantly loses money at the casinos. She's divorcing the bum because they keep having money problems because of his gambling.
