how much is ATL supposed to get today?

I'm in TN but it appears the storm is going to slide underneath us and head up the Carolinas.

I have this sadistic little fantasy that a city like Atlanta or maybe Phoenix will get as much snow as we've gotten in Buffalo in the last week or so. Hearing about 5 or 6 feet of snow in an otherwise warm city would just crack my sh!t up.

I'm an hour above Savannah and we're getting sleet and rain mix.

Yep, it'd really mess up us, but unlike Buffalo, it'd be gone in a day or two when the temps got back to 50 or so the next day.

When I lived in Baltimore we got 2' overnight. My poor honda didn't move for a week. Atlanta would implode if we got that much snow.

The bizarre thing is that we moved from Atlanta to west Texas this year (San Angelo) and have had TWO 4+ inch snowfalls this year! The first time it happened, back in November, they said it hadn't snowed that much in twenty years. Now, we have a SECOND one (the same storm hitting Atlanta, incidentally).

I hope you bought your bread, eggs, and milk early because Atlanta is one of those places where everyone, apparently, makes French toast on snowdays. Never could figure that out.

Hehe. I was about to post the same thing!

We've got snow in Peachtree City and Fayetteville. It's sticking to some areas, but not the roads yet. I was planning on driving back to Tech today, but since I don't trust Atlanta drivers in the snow, I think I'll wait.

wooo. i can see the snow out my office window. it's actually accumulating on the grass, not really on the pavement tho. i'd LOVE to have 5-6 feet of snow here, i'd get like 2 weeks off of work. hehe. 5-6 inches would shut this place down for at least a day.

Yeah! Bring it on! I'm in Fayetteville, NC (in the Army) and I don't want to have to do PT tomorrow morning after I get off from my mid-shift!

We don't need as much snow as in Buffalo to have a major crisis... 2-3 inches staying will do the trick just fine.
When I get home and pick up some prescription at the store I bet all Milk and Bread will be sold out. Silly sotherners

Hey GTaudiophile... where in PTC are you? I live close to the old Kroger. We should get together sometime! PM me!

It's not like hell freezing over, but any accumulation is enough to get everone to clean out the grocery stores and then crash into each other on the way home. Atlantans don't seem to get that snow=slippery and they must therefore drive below the speed of sound for a change.

Fausto <=== Michigan native who knows how to drive in the snow and thinks Atlantans are idiots when it comes to driving in adverse conditions

I live in Roswell and we have about 2-3 inches already. Roads are not bad yet. RUC and ETA computer models calling for another 2-3. Another system this weekend... rain changing to snow. Could be big this weekend if temps are low enough. ETA seems to think so... waiting on a few more runs to verify or AVN or MRF to agree. I like the ETA for snow in the South. AVN is always to cold and dry and MRF throws everything out of the Gulf too far south, and the NGM just blows.

The last time I seen snow in Atlanta was when I watched Driving Miss Daisy, or was that ice?

Rochester NY.....28 degrees..green grass still. Hahaha.....lowest snow fall total in December ever.

I live right off Roswell Rd. on Roberts Dr right next to the Chattahoochee river. You have to remember that in Southern snow accumulation differs even a few miles away. One little band of moderate snow can add an inch. I just went out and measured with a ruler. We have right at 2.25 inches on the grass and close to 3 on cars. I just moved to Atlanta in October. Nice city though. I am thinking there might be higher dewpoints here due to the river... but I don't have my weather station here yet. What part of Alpharetta? Mapquest says 10 miles from Roberts Dr. and the directions look right. Get on 400 and get off at the Alpharetta exit. Are you close to the river? I know that at Chattahoochee HS the dewpoint is around 29. That is 90% humidity and that is why I believe the higher dewpoints are around the river are allowing more snow to fall...the airmass is drier in other parts of Atlanta. Not a lot drier but it does matter. Sorry if I rambled... my major in college was Broadcast Meteorology. I had to go on a leave due to some problems but I will be going back in August.
