Did a metric century on the bike yesterday.

I'm sore, no cramping this time though. I've got to solve my hand problem. My left pinky is 'still' numb.

Onward to a real century.

How was the preparation for that? Keep on with your accomplishments!

Been slowly adding distance. 20 miles, 25 miles, 30, 35, 40. . . .

every weekend. Also commuting through week on bike. Yesterday I ramped up and went for 68 miles.

Er, numb pinky? You need to be careful with that - nerve impingement for a long period of time can cause permanent sensory and motor damage.

Yea, I know - cyclist's palsy they call it.

I've ordered some handlebar gel padding to go under my tape, and I've got me an adjustable stem to rise my bars some more to get my hand weight off of them. I don't really care about being 'aerodynamic' I just want to sit upright mostly. I'm working on it.

Gonna wear out that new bike at this rate.

Grats. How's the weight doing?

I'm down to 228 now, so I'm at 112 lbs of weight loss. I bought a pair of size '38' shorts other day, my first foray into the 30's since I've had a teen in front of my age.

Yeah, just be careful, man. I didn't mean to sound just like a negative nancy. What you did was impressive and I commend you for that. Just don't let an arbitrary distance keep you on the bike when you're causing nerve damage

For my hands, raised the stem and got heavier padded gloves and grips. Sorry, can't remember the brands.

Have you been fitted at a shop by professionals? If pain and numbness is a problem and a concern it's worth it to have a shop do a detailed fitting and tailor the bike for you.

I experience this from time to time if I spend to much riding on the 'tops' of my drop bars. It's typically caused by compression of the ulnar nerve in the lower part of the palm and can be particularly an issue for long rides where you aren't varying your hand position much (in the drops, tops of the brake hoods, etc.). Keep experimenting with different gloves as they are a highly individual fit. The gel pads for under the tape work fine, but I've found that just double-wrapping my bars with a good cork-style bar tape works wonders.

Get some aerobars. I have some clip ons I have some Profile Design CGT bars and love em. I couldn't imagine riding 60 miles without them. In fact I'm on them at least 80% of the time.
