well, feeling responsible, paying bills, providing for your loving family are all very worthwhile though. It may lack freedom, but you feel like you're contributing to something good, and feel really really good about it. Feeling lazy and thinking you cannot provide is even worse of a feeling. Everything I do and pay for, I know it was from my own hardwork (from my achievements in academic life to my career..they all lead to one another to prepare you); and that feeling that one is reponsible for his own living and the living of his loved ones is a great feeling. I think it's better than the feeling of freedom. So work hard to achieve that feeling.

High School Sucked.

College is fun but after 4 years I am quite sick of it.

About to graduate and then have some fun(I don't plan to get married or have kids or have a lot of bills in the near future. I don't understand it...maybe cause I am still in college but if you don't like having the stress of work, having pay huge bills, and having kids...then why do it? No one forced you to take that stressful job. No one forced you to buy that 30,000 dollar car that you have to pay off now when you could have bought a cheaper one. No one forced you to buy that huge house you work your ass off to live in.)

Congrats, have fun at college

advice:

Do well in school right off the back, working your way up is hard as hell(i have good grades, just an observation)
Don't get a girl preggers
Don't drink too much

Once you graduate college in a few years you'll look back at HS and say WTF was that load of crap, and WTF was I thinking.

Have fun in college, don't study too much or party too much...find a happy medium for both.

Other than that enjoy life while you can cuz once college is over...then well the freedom ends

Welcome back to highschool x2 (aka college). I wish I was back in HS now, 3 years of college has burned me out: tired of this crap, thank god I only have 1 year left. Life starts in 1 year for me...

Bwahahahahaha

A little secret that you will soon learn. High school WAS freedom.

At any rate, congratulations.

You didn't learn much in school did you?

About the first point.... study hard and play hard. End of story. Remember.. procrastination is a lot like masturbation, it feels good while you are doing, but in the end, you are just screwing yourself.

You don't have to jump into a time consuming job after college. Travel the world, live as a (ski, slab, crag, river, woods) bum. What is the rush? OMG! IF I DON'T START A CARREER RIGHT NOW I WILL ONLY HAVE 35 YEARS LEFT!!

The end of college shouldn't be the last day of your life.

That and getting out and experiencing life on my own a bit. I'm all set, all tests and finals done I just get to sit through 4 days of year book signing, early morning graduation practice then wait for my name to be called.

Anyone else around here graduating soon?

Edit: Some of you guys are real buzz killers but you do bring up good points. I'm not saying freedom as in freedom from responsibility or anything, I'm looking forward to responsibility that will be more full filling/purposeful. A few of you brought up providing for a wife/kids and bills and so forth, I'd much rather be busting my ass for those things rather than AP Government. High school is really fun in some ways especially if you have a great group of friends, but I don't need to be in high school to enjoy my friendships. Also looking forward to meeting new people in college.

Unless you're a genius, 'freedom', 'university' and 'engineering' don't mix. I know what you mean though, after a few years I was tired of HS and looked forward to university. In a lot of ways university was nice, but if you think it'll be some radical departure from HS and your life will get great, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

i graduate hs on the 21st, a little late. im pissed because i was supposed to be valedictorian (4.0 and up), but i guess i got a 3.98, so if i can turn one more B into an A by the end of next week, i wear white.

on another note, im a little nervous about college (cal poly slo), but im pretty sure im rooming with my friend from hs. so w/e, im just gonna take it a day at a time i guess, try to make the best of it and not have regrets later on

Uh, to the edit, college IS the absence of responsibility compared to anything you'll do afterwards. Enjoy it. Learn a bit, party a lot, and set yourself up for responsibility afterwards.

When school ends and you need to find a job, remember that your personality, the experiences you have had and the people you have met, will play as much a factor in your success as will your grades. Grades are important, but for many professions, there is no functional difference between a B+ average and an A+ average. If you go into a job touting your GPA, you will get looked down upon. No one cares after you graduate.

I graduated from one of the top public universities in the world with a B+ average (in undergrad), still graduated near the top of my class in grad school, and still got a job with the best accounting firm in the world. B+ versus A+ doesn't matter a whit, but the fact that I can speak intelligently and show genuine interest in other professionals does. Grades get you through the first recruiting cut but personality and base ability does the rest.

Learn the materials, learn the concepts behind them, and then spend the rest of that time rounding yourself out in whatever way you deem worthy. I spent it reading poetry, history, and philosophy, talking with friends, and working, and I think the time that I spent doing that versus trying for a 4.0 was well worth it.

If you didn't have fun in college then you suck at life. Those should be the best 4 years of your life. I only went for one before joinging the Army and it was phenomenal. I'll be heading back soon, but I'll be married and 25.

I don't think any 4 years should be the "best years of your life" thats just setting you up to be depressed the rest of your life.

and college is fun but its just another way of living. Yeah if you are a guy who loves to drink, have sex with passed out girls, and do retarded things, yeah college will probably be the best days of your life. I like to drink, actually talk to girls, and do things that are fun but aren't retarded. All things I can do after I am out of college without looking like an idiot.

Thats exactly what I did in college. Everything in moderation...well maybe study real hard at some points, but otherwise from someone who just graduated college don't over do it partying/drinking. In the end it's usually not worth it. I still had a blast in college, and I remember every bit of it. No point in getting so trashed as to not remember it!

Adulthood is the absence of freedom.

lol, first thing I thought(and was going to post) when I read the title.

Overlord: You are no longer free, welcome.

A lot of you guys are nuts. I'm older than most of you, and college was the best time of my life - period. It was a LOT more freedom than HS, and since I wasn't solely supporting myself, a lot less responsibility than adulthood.

OP, you'll love college and I completely understand your sentiments. Enjoy it, do well but have fun, don't sweat the small stuff; hardly anyone makes a 4.0 or meets their wife or regrets the puke stains on their favorite shirt in college.

You're kidding yourself. If you're even THINKING about medicine, you have given up freedom for the next 12 plus years. You have a TON of things you'll be obligated to do if you're looking to get into a specific field.

You don't "really" get to start studying what you're really interested in until your 3rd year in college. Then there's your post-grad studies where you really get to focus more. You'll need to work eventually though
