Congrats man!

I didnt know all of that story about the injury on your previous job. Since you're not taking meds it sounds like the pain has been manageable? A company that will pay for your college is teh win.

You haven't been employed since the day I joined this forum. Kind of crazy to think about. I was a senior in high school then and now I am 2 years out of college and onto my 2nd job in which I might move across the US for.

I made 3,400 posts before you got a job.

CONGRATS! Now you can complain about our government and how they steal all our money!

I went through numerous medical evaluations, one knee surgery, and a battery of tests (some not too pleasant) before the docs finally decided they couldn't put Humpty-Boomer back together again. Finally, in 2006, they decided that since I couldn't be fixed...they'd retrain me.

I spent the next 2-1/2 years in school. First year was wasted in an architectural drafting program that I just didn't get, (terrible spatial reasoning and zero artistic recognition) then convinced them to let me change my major to bookkeeping and accounting. I ended up getting 2 A.S. degrees in 1-1/2 years after that. (bookkeeping, accounting, business administration)
These majors worked pretty well for me. Numbers make sense, and in accounting, there's very little room for "gray areas." It's either right, or it's wrong.

Congrats Boomer!

Anyone prescribed physical therapy, as in, exercises you can do at home? Something as simple as a daily walk does wonders for your back.

Mosh, I've been through weeks of physical therapy with little to no results.

I've tried time after time to walk around the block, but with the fubar'd knee, before I get very far, I start limping on that side, then, that alters my gait and the back starts hurting like hell, and pretty soon, I'm trying to limp on that side too...Dammed difficult to limp on both sides at once.

I thought you're old enough to retire, or are drawing Social Security?

Nah, not nearly old enough for Social Security...but I COULD get SSDI if I really wanted to do that. I'd rather work some mind-numbing bookkeeping job.

Manageable pain? I guess that depends on your definition of manageable...sometimes it gets almost unbearable...other times it just hurts like a sumbitch. Pain reminds us that we're still alive...and some days, I'm REALLY alive!! (I have a large box full of "candy" that I can (and do) take when things get so bad I can't tolerate it anymore, but that's rare for me. I have a very high tolerance to pain.) I grit my teeth, take NSAIDS, and live with it.

Kanalua, no more aquariums for me...I took down my last reef tank almost 5 years ago. It's the longest I've been without a working aquarium in over 35 years. I just can't do the necessary maintenance anymore.

dbk, YES! I love accounting. People who don't know the field never understand what a good feeling it is when you're doing a worksheet before preparing financial statements, and when you're done entering numbers, all the columns balance...everything's in the proper place, the right order, all the accounts are balanced, then the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Statement of Owner's Equity all balance...

Jedi, unfortunately, I am required to re-train and find a job...like it or not.

I can probably arange that for ya...

Before this, I'd never been unemployed more than a month...and that was when I was tired and burned out and took time off between jobs.

It's taken a LOT of getting used to, both for me and for my wife...
(I think she had to give up her daytime boyfriend. )

Now, I gotta get used to the daily grind again, but fortunately, (at least for now) it's only 5 hours per day, 4 days per week. I'm sure that will change during tax season.
