Over the past school year I have been working through all the application process for the St. Paul's Advanced Studies Program. I JUST GOT THE LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE TONIGHT! This is huge. In previous years the figures of who gets in has been 1 out of two people (50:50 shot). This year, the figures were 1:3! Out of my whole high, only 4 people will be accepted. This program is not just your average summer program. It is five weeks of intensive study. I can't wait! I am friends with some of the people that got accepted last year, and they said that after the program, they were bombarded with scholarship opportunities and college letters from excellent schools. Those of you who aren't familiar with the school can see their website here:
http://www.sps.edu/Default.asp?bhcp=1

That is the St Paul's regular school (its a private high school). Their summer program is known as the Advanced Studies Program (ASP).

Wait, so 1 out of 3 people gets accepted? What's so great about that? My University only accepted 1 out of every 10 people that applied and it's not like the school is amazing, it's good but not super ++.

I think it goes without saying that you would not have been accepted.

I don't get it, he said 1 out of 3 will be accepted. then he said only 4 people will be aceepted. so only 12 will apply? And since this is such a great school/program, I can only assume that everyone will apply.

lol you think 1:1 odds are good... try going for a real job where it's like 1 job for 35 applicants, and then you can feel good.

Your incorrect assumptions:
1. Everyone applies.
2. His school has the same acceptance rate as other schools.

I guess your sarcasm meter's broken. I was trying to point out that only 12 applied to what seems to be the opportunity of a life time.

Not the whole school applied. Schools from all over the state applied. Only the students in the top ten from our junior class were asked to apply. A few others applied on their own.

Congrats! (Boarding school grad myself)

The summer sessions are in a way more challenging and interesting than the normal school year, lots of people from different places/backgrounds.

Your sarcastic comment was based on faulty logic, so it's not surprising that an intelligent person wouldn't get it. This program has an acceptance rate that isn't much higher than MIT's. But MIT is one of the best colleges in the country. Not many people apply to MIT, because most know they won't be accepted.

MIT's acceptance rate is closer to 10% instead of 33%

QFT, the top few colleges have acceptance rates ~10%, not 33%

When I was looking at colleges it was 20%. They accepted about 4000 per year out of 20,000.

Edit:

MIT's overall acceptance rate for the Class of '05 was 19%, Stanford's was 15%, and Berkeley's was 27%.

Berkeley must be full of average students with that high acceptance rate. :Q

Man, are you always a dick? or just on the internet. The OP did not mention only a handful can apply in the first place. He made a big deal out of 4 out of 12, so I made a bad joke. Why don't get get that stick outta your ass.

If you look at all the people I know from Berkeley, that statement is more than accurate.
