B3's were capable of 3.6 on air, especially the earlier Q6600 around week 35 or so

if i were to get a chip now, itd be an ES Q6600 G0 or QX6850. These seem to rock especially under singlestage. Fugger got his to 4.8 on single stage... that's pretty darn impressive considering it takes at least dry ice to do that with the B3's.

Just got the chip now! Wondering if I should just use the stock HSF. If so, should I use the goop Intel put on or should I remove it and use AS5? Or should I use stock and stock goop, see how it work and then use AS5 if It gets too hot??? Im new to 775 cpus.

For now I would suggest using "stock and stock goop".

Reason: Simply just to see how well it does.

I hope I made the right choice going with the E6850 over the E6750. 100 buck price dif. I hope I can OC the hell out of it. I wont feel too bad as I paid 300 for my s939 A64 X2 3800 about a year ago.

I think you made a good choice. I have the E6850 and I'm satisfied with it so far. I've OC'd it all the way up to 3.8, but the performance gains I've gotten from it don't justify all the voltage tweaking (and the temperature increases) it takes to get there, so I've opted to run it at 3.54ghz. Getting the cpu to that mark easy easy and I don't have to adjust the cpu voltage much to get there. I've only made a simple increase to the NB.

The disadvantage of overclocking the Q6600 is that you're going to create a lot more heat. Your PWM temps are going to jump up a lot. Not necessarily a serious problem though if you've got good quality airflow.
