We've always had a POS fractional T1 that's shared with the phone lines and we get dial up speeds with how many people are on it. About a year ago we got a 25/25 fios line that we were sharing with another company in the building but after they left last month we had to go back to the T1.

Today, much to my surprise, Verizon showed up to install a new line. Someone said we were getting a faster line than what we had, so I figured it would be a 50Mb line. I saw the Verizon guys removing all the old equipment and wondered why they needed to do that for 25-->50Mb and was told we are getting 150Mb so they needed to do an upgrade

And we're also completely getting rid of the T1 line to our corporate office so we'll be saving a good amount of money. I told them years ago to do this but nooo they were happy spending several grand a month on the T1.

I know but I'm still geeking out about it

I just wanna do a speed test before they start filtering everything. The router is connected now, I can get on it if I change my tcp/ip settings but the fios line isn't active just yet.

Do this. VVV

Do what now?

Hope your network can handle it....

Also, get some good firewalls and filters up FAST, or people will LOVE streaming, only to get "disgruntled" from not being allowed to see their sports teams play while at work/etc..... (We had guys at my last company that would have the playoffs, or other games, streaming behind their ACAD program... Like a techie would not notice... )

Just make sure you have a good filtering service, or you will just get broad banning of just about anything, even stuff that you may actually NEED for work, because the filtering service does not know your particular buisness needs.....

T1 lines are expensive because they're ridiculously amazingly reliable. If you have a problem that requires a technician on-site, they show up FAST.

Fios is cheap and not nearly as reliable.

Hope the trade-off works for you guys. Congrats on 150meg

that's it?
weak sauce..
we are on 2 150s primaries and a 50 on a different carrier to roll over to in emergencies. Not FIOS though.. Time Warner and AT&T corporate fiber connections.

and yes being the Network Admin does have its benefits.. don't have to worry about the "filtering" hehe. love downloading HD content so fast. why bother going home for a measly 20.

Was your company really spending thousands on a single T1, or is this just your assumption? I order them occasionally for $300 (all in). Only paying $1000 for 100Mb fiber. Are you in the middle of the Pacific?

I'm just in accounting not IT so I don't know all the details, but we have a T1 to each of our 6 offices from our corporate office.
It's been $3300 to $4400/mo.

IIRC the 150Mb fios line is $200. So for 6 offices thats ~$1200 (not sure about taxes/fees yet). Much better.

fractional t1 to 150MB is HUUGGGEEEE. congrats.

Not at work
-youtube is blocked
-tube8 is blocked (haven't actually checked but I assume it is)
-something awful is blocked
-cracked is blocked

Basically everything on the net that requires bandwidth is blocked. The only work thing that takes a lot of bandwidth is uploading files the server, but I usually do that when I'm about to go home then lock the computer and it's done when I come in the next day ^_^

Thought about getting this at home but I would have to upgrade my firewall, PIX 501 (interfaces are only 100 Mb). Also, the upload/download ratio wasnt good enough.

Not sure what we have here, but apparently I'm no longer throttled (used to get <10 Mb/s and I know we haven't changed ISPs).

edit: nm shows place of employment as my ISP interestingly enough. I'm getting 93.77 Mb/s down and 43.48 up with 12 MS ping.
