I have a friend who has been having trouble with their computer for about a week. He brought it over to me to take a look at and here is what the situation is.
It appears that he tried to setup foreign language fonts or something that required the Office or Works Suite CD-ROM/DVD. Unfortunately he has looked through all his discs and can't find it. Everytime you launch Word 2002 it tries to install the feature and prompts for the disc which we of course don't have. To add to my usefulness, I have been happily using MS Office 2000 and of course am too cheap to upgrade especially since I can use my work laptop.
I have tried using the "Detect and Repair" option in the Help for Word but that did not correct the issue. Other "fixes" seem to require the original discs. I downloaded the Windows Installer Repair utility but that didn't solve the problem either as it is mainly aimed at removing apps that fail to fully install.
Does anyone know of a way to stop the installer from trying to add this feature without need of the original discs? Is there a registry key or something that was flipped on when the feature was originally selected by my friend and can I simply "flip the bit" on this back to the original setting? Thanks for you help in advance!
