I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. The Computer Help forum appeared to be for hardware issues, and so I thought that perhaps this post would be better placed in a Software forum. If anyone has a good suggestion on a better forum to put this, I'll definitely pursue that.
Lately I've been having an unusual problem with Word 2007. Everytime I attempt to close Word, the application crashes with the "Microsoft Office Word has stopped working" message. I have this message every time I try to exit. More unusually, I can't seem to open files correctly. Everytime I double-click on a file to open it, the program opens up Word but it does not open the file. I am left with a blank window for Microsoft Word. Additionally, when I try to open a blank document, I cannot highlight or right-click on any text.
I have tried to use the "repair" function but it has not helped. I have also updated Microsoft Office, applying any available update in addition to SP1. None of this has changed the situation. Google has been ambiguous at best. I tried one suggestion that told me to delete all of my dot and dotm files, but that did not change the situation. Another post suggested that some Adobe program was at fault, but removing one program for another really doesn't sound like a very good solution. Word 2007 continues to crash when I try to exit and it spits out the following information:
----------------------------------------------
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: WINWORD.EXE
Application Version: 12.0.6211.1000
Application Timestamp: 46d4a7df
Fault Module Name: mso.dll
Fault Module Version: 12.0.6213.1000
Fault Module Timestamp: 46eafebf
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 0003aff6
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033
Additional information about the problem:
LCID: 1033
Brand: Office12Crash
skulcid: 1033
--------------------------------------------------
I also want to note that this does not seem to happen with Excel 2007 or any other Microsoft Office applications. This only happens with Microsoft Word 2007.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? There's not much that I can do with Word right now.
